Germany - West- Mainline
Running on this line, the landscape will
change very much. From the cold, windy North of Germany through
the beautiful Rhine valley, the train reaches one of the wormest
parts of Germany, the vine yards near Wiesbaden, Mainz or
Frankfurt(Main) and finally along the Bergstrasse between
Darmstadt reaching the famous tourist spot Heidelberg.
Along the Rhine river are two railway lines, the left one mainly
for express trains, the right one mainly for freight train. In
August 2002 the high-speed-line between Frankfurt(M) and Koeln,
shown in red, has been opened. The ICE trains reduced the speed
from more than 2h to about 1h.

Typical landscape at the Rhine river near Bacharach. The train on
this picture is the famous TEE "Rheingold", which was
the top-train on this ine from 1937, then became famous again in
1967, and finally ended in 1990 due to the new system
organization. The train has just passed the narrow valley near
the Loreley rock, which inspired the ship captains to create
famous songs and stories.

This electric motor unit class 517 had rechargable batteries. The
home was Limburg and due to its unique design it had the nickname
"Limburger Zigarre" (cigar). It was withdrawn around
1980. At the station in Wiesbaden, shown here, the trains had to
change the direction, the same as in Frankfurt(M). Date:
