Germany - North-South-Line
The
North-South-Line is the main line from Hamburg and Bremen with
their large harbors located at the North Sea, and Hannover with
its industry to the South of Germany, like the airport in
Frankfurt, the large city Munich and to Austria and Italy. So,
this line has much long-distance passenger and freight trains. In
1990-06 the high-speed-line (in the map in red) was opened for
express trains, but during night time freight trains are using
this line also. This concept is different from other high-speed
lines e.g. France or Japan, which only have high-speed trains.

powerful German steam engines and was running on this line until
the electric traction started in 1964.

DMU class 613, an old express train from 1953, runs the regional
express E6728 and is waiting to return back to the other endpoint
Braunschweig. This DMU was withdrawn in 1985, but one unit is
remaining and sometimes runs for fans. This station is in the
small village Eichenberg, which became famous as railway station,
because the line Nordhausen-Kassel is crossing the
North-South-line.
