Kazuma: A young girl's voice is heard, she is talking about a dream. The view is in outer space, eventually zooming in on earth, then to an island, a plane comes into view. The announcement over the airplane's PA system talks about the disaster that turned an island off the coast of Japan into the lost ground. A lady on the plane holds a pendant, reminiscing that it's been 7 years since she was last at the Lost Ground. She looks out the window and sees a young man on a building roof. He stretches out his hand, and chunks of the roof disappear. He punches the ground soaring to the level of the plane using it to propel him to another building, where several thugs are holding a man hostage. He recovers the hostage, cue opening sequence. An investigation at the site of the incident introduces a young female HOLY officer and alter user, Sherrice. There is discussion of alter users and the creation of the lost ground. The scene changes to a working town. The alter user of last night, Kazuma, discusses his job, then sneaks his profits to a struggling kid. A train speeds by heading into the city, the next scene is the headquarters of HOLY. Plans are made to capture the native alter Kazuma. Back to the lost ground, a young girl (Kanami) happily greets Kazuma as Kazu-kun upon his return. It soon becomes clear that she is business savvy and mature. Kimishima enters, offering Kazuma another job going up against an alter user. They argue over Kazuma's fee, Kanami sighs. The scene cuts to a HOLY transport vehicle, Sherrice relays a message to another HOLY officer, who replies with "Native Alter" in an ominous voice. Kazuma and Kimishima drive out to the site where Big-kun is bullying the native Hideki group. Kazuma engages him in a fight, pitting his alloyed arm against Big-kun's giant mechanical alter, HAMMER. Kimishima ensures that this is a one on one fight. Kazuma revels in taking out his alter, describing the feelings that go along with it and uttering the famous line "You think so too, right?". Big-kun's giant Hammer is no match for Kazuma's agility and powerful punch. After defeating Big-kun, HOLY arrives on the scene to apprehend Kazuma. For an increase in price, Kazuma fights them too. Defying them, he leaps up and uses his alter to punch their tank. The fighting is escalated when a HOLY officer with red eyes joins in, effortlessly beating Kazuma with his humanlike alter. Sherrice sighs while watching the fight, remarking "There are people like him who have never lost till they met us." The fight nears it's end, the HOLY officer tells Kazuma "Just as I thought, you're a human being not needed in this society". Kazuma reacts by using his final blitz. The scene switches to a sleeping Kanami, she is seeing this fight in her dream. Kazuma's alter is destroyed, he is knocked to the ground, still holding his right arm upwards. Ryuhou: Another altercation between HOLY and native alters is taking place, the same officer that defeated Kazuma easily dispatches a fire-type native alter. When the other inners refuse to follow his orders, he uses his alter against all of them. Sherrice turns away, saying that it's too much. The scene switches to a laboratory where a young woman is researching the events at Kanagawa, now known as the Lost Ground. She is revealed as genius Kiryu Mimori, and tells a co-worker of her plans to do field work at the Lost Ground. When he objects, she informs him that she lived there until 7 years ago. She is next seen walking away from the airplane that was attacked by a native alter. She holds her pendant whispering "I'm back... Ryuhou". There is a flashback to 7 years ago, it starts at a formal military party. Young Mimori introduces herself to Ryutailen, an important local man and his son, Ryuhou. The two walk outside and discuss alter abilities and the lost ground. It is revealed that Ryuhou has the alter ability. He informs Mimori that it's not a gift, but a hindrance to living a normal life. He then leaves, telling her to stay away because he does not want to hurt her. She picks up the crystal formed by his alter. The scene changes to the next day, Ryuhou is playing with his dog Tetsuei. Young Mimori asks him if she can keep the crystal as a present. Seemingly in a better mood, he agrees and the two become friends. They were together every day for six months until she had to return to the mainland. Back to the present, Mimori is picked up by HOLD's Straight Cougar and driven to headquarters. During the ride, Straight Cougar demonstrates his alter ability "Radical Good Spin". He transforms the car, and they reach HOLY headquarters in a mere 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Unfortunately, the car then explodes. Sherrice and Ryuhou introduce themselves formally, then leave. He shows no recognition of her, then tells Sherrice he does not know her. Mimori and Ryuhou meet with Commander Martin Jigmar, who coldly welcomes her and makes reference to her father's high government position. She is angered, and asks him not to judge her by that. After the meeting, she attempts to talk to Ryuhou but he leaves abruptly. Later, she is sitting in the cafeteria when Sherrice approaches her. They briefly discuss the different alter users, and Sherrice compliments her necklace. Mimori gets permission to ask her personal questions, and starts by asking her why she joined HOLY. Sherrice replies that she is in HOLY to live. Alter users can live powerfully when together. She also states that it's different from most jobs, because you have to be born with alter ability, it isn't something that can be taught with training. Upon getting up to leave for a job, she states that Mimori and Ryuhou are closer than they look, but are in different worlds. "Remember that". Straight Cougar approaches Mimori, calling her Minori-san. She corrects him, and asks why he didn't go on the call. He replies "Let Ryuhou and Sherrice go, two should be more than enough". He then offers to take her along to watch the alter fight. He alters another car, "I have shrunk the world again". They park on a cliff some distance from the battle and look on with binoculars. Watching Ryuhou defeat Kazuma, Mimori sees his alter for the first time. Commander Jigmar is arguing in the hospital room with the head of HOLD, the same man Kazuma rescued during his airplane stunt earlier. He's extremely upset about being kidnapped, reminding Jigmar that if anything happened to him there would be no mainland support of HOLY. Jigmar states that he should be more cautious, after all there is no security outside the walls of the city. Mimori is deeply affected by the fight, she recognizes Kazuma as the alter that attacked her plane. "Ryuhou? Why have you changed so much? Is it the alter ability? The Lost Ground?" A tear streams down her face, and Straight Cougar states that her sentimentality will not sustain her. He refers to the fight and says "This is a place like that." |
