Welcome to the section of the page for ideas on making your own movies. Now, don't forget, your movies aren't always meaning that you are in them. I get offers sometimes from people who want me to make movies for them. They would do things such as skateboard around doing tricks (sweet) and I would film them. Then, I put all of the nice clips together and add music or whatever they want. But once you get to this stage in moviemaking, don't just do it for free. Just recently, I edited ONE CLIP for about 5 hours and it got me a sweet six seconds of footage. Now that probably seems stupid, but special effects are what make movies come alive, these days. AND I got paid. You should charge a by the hour, and make it reasonable, because, like I explained earlier, editing can take a very long time.

Types of Movies

Parody--A movie which makes jokes or fun of another movie. Usually has the same general plot as the movie you are making fun of, but you can add your own funny ideas in. Try not to keep the same character names but make them somewhat close, such as Jimmy to Timmy.

Comedy--Comedys are usually consisting of brand new jokes, ones that are made up by you or your writers. The characters in a comedy should be tested for a funny personality before getting the part.

Action-Packed--Usually very exciting, consisting of explosions or fighting scenes. Get characters who can run fast or are able to do stunts.

Historical--This type of movie can be both very easy and very hard to make. Mainly, you don't have to make up as many ideas as a normal movie because it follows what actually happened in history. But, it can get to be hard because along with going with the historical guidelines, you have to create some of your own ideas that are both believable and understanda ble.

Love Story--These are movies that aren't frequently made by young directors. First of all, you need people who are willing to kiss or other things in front of the camera. These kinds of people can be hard to find. They must also look good.

Don't just try to make a movie in only one of those categories. These days, many action-packed movies are also comedys, parodies, or love stories.

How Can I Add Special Effects to Movies?

Editing movies with special effects can take a very long time, as I have explained many times. But special effects really spice up a movie and I like to use them a lot. For ametures, editing can be a long and painstaking process, but it almost always turns out great. Here are my steps to adding special effects:

.

1. Get an editing software. If you don't have one, adding effects is pretty much impossible.

2. Once you have the software, put the clips of the film onto it in order and make sure everything is in the right place.

3. Go to the frame you would like to add effects to.

4. Under the File Menu, there should be some sort of choice so that you can save that frame. The first one should be saved as something something 1. The second should be something something 2, and so on...

5. Continue on to the next frame and save it. Repeat until you have saved all of the frames that you would like to edit in that specific scene. The amount of frames that you need to save depends on how much footage you would like to spice up. I reccommend that you start with small amounts until you get better. A small amount would be around 80 frames. Now that seems like a lot, but it compares to nothing in some of the stuff that I do.

6. Now that you have saved all of the frames in a specific folder, access that folder and open up the first frame you saved (something something 1). Depending on the type of computer and system you have, the frames will open up in different softwares, such as Paint or a Quicktime Picture file.

7. If it opens up in a software that allows you to edit pictures, just leave it there. If it doesn't then copy that frame and paste it into a software that does. I recommend Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or 7.0, becaus they have lots and lots of features.

8. The next step is to edit which ever part of the frame you would like to edit. Since you are only on the first frame, make the change smaller, so it can get noticeable as you edit more frames.

9. After you are done editing that frame, you need to go under the File Menu and save it. I recommend that you save it as the same name as it was originally saved as so you don't end up with multiple files. This is called replacing.

10. Just keep opening up the next frames, editing them, and saving them.

11. ...Hours later (or however long it takes to finish editing all of the frames), you are done. This is the step where the frames go back into your movie. If you open up your movie editing software, under the File Menu there should be some sort of choice which allows you to import a file. When you select that choice, just find that folder with all of the edited frames and select the first one. It should appear somewhere on your software. Then repeat until all of the frames are imported. Select them all and put them into the correct place. If you make sure they are all the right length of time and in the right position it should turn out great.
