Bacterium Identification/Enterotube II Reactions

Improved biochemical procedures include several commercially available miniaturized multiple-test systems and devices designed to facilitate the identification of unknown bacterial cultures. One of these systems, the Enterotube II carefully emphasizes the importance placed on the need for the rapid analysis of test results for the identification of clinically isolated bacteria.

These are the colors and apperance of an uninoculated system. The different compartments are labeled according what reactant they hold.

The Enterotube is used to identify an unknown bacterium. These are examples of different bacterial results after inoculation. They include Escherichia coli (Enterotube ID value #55241), Klebsiella pneumoniae (#40673), and Salmonella typhi (#50040). "+" represents a postive reaction to the seperate compartments, "-" repersents a negative reaction.
