Jason in Iraq

This page is a work in progress. Please check back for pictures as we get them, and a list of care package items that Jason may need. We will update you as we get further information. (Last updated 9/5/04.)

Care Package Items & Letters

Jason would like to hear all the news from home, big or small. If anyone wishes to write letters to Jason or send care package items, you can send them to Merideth first (address below) and she will box them up and send them on, or you may address them directly to Jason's APO address. ***NOTE: You will need to fill out a customs form for packages at the post office, but postage will be the same $ amount as to a US address. Letters (and packages under 1lb) do not need a customs form and can be sent directly with just a stamp(s)/postage. Call or email Merideth if you have any questions--mmcelprang@hotmail.com or 480-668-6628.

**For email please send it to mmcelprang@hotmail.com, include in the subject line "AA-", for example: "AA-news from Idaho". This will send it directly to Jason's box in the email account.

**Please do not send homemade food items! All food items should be in their original manufacturer's packaging and must be able to last through several weeks of travel time--no perishables. This is due to mail security for the soldiers overseas, as well as the time it takes for the soldiers to receive the mail. We have been experimenting and found that some homemade items (like cookies) will travel okay, if they have been vacuum sealed, but otherwise they will get too stale.

**The smaller the package, the faster Jason will get it--about 10 days. Bigger boxes can take a couple weeks or longer if they are oversized or extremely heavy. Postage is working out to be about $2 per pound on packages.

What Jason has been doing...

PLEASE NOTE: All pictures and captions/explanations are in reverse order (i.e. the most recent pictures and events are listed first). More pictures will be added as soon as they become available.

AT FORT BLISS... Jason was training at Fort Bliss, TX, before leaving for Kuwait (12/10/03 thru 2/21/04).

These are some pictures Jason took at Fort Bliss before he came home for Christmas break. Included are pictures of the barracks at Fort Bliss, both inside and out, and pictures of his fellow soldiers.

GETTING READY TO GO... Jason took these while his unit was preparing to deploy--packing, training, etc.--during November and the beginning of December, 2003.
