Trivia

Taken from the following sites- Amazon.co.uk, IMdB and Fast-rewind.

  • The film originally included an extended sequence for the song "The Meek Shall Inherit". This can be heard on the soundtrack.
  • The original ending featured extensive model shots of Audrey 2 wreaking havoc on the city to the song "Don't Feed the Plants", once it had eaten Audrey and Seymour. The ending was reshot after bad preview audience reaction. The film ends with Seymour killing the plant, and him and Audrey living happily ever after. However, the musical you may see in the theatre, sticks with the original "unhappy" ending.
  • The song Mean Green Mother From Outerspace was written for the changed ending. Originally, there was to be Don't Feed The Plants (from the theatre version) and a song called Bad which Audrey 2 sang.
  • The neon sign "CHOOZ" blinks the "OZ"; the director's surname. contract during the song "Some Fun Now".
  • The members of the film's "Greek Chorus" are all named after '50s/'60s girl groups: The Ronettes, The Chiffons, and The Crystals.
  • The bizarre equipment used by sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello has made numerous appearances in other Warner Bros. productions, notably as Jeremy Irons' gynecology tools in Dead Ringers (1988) and as the Joker's plastic surgeon's tools in Batman (1989).
  • Believe it or not, there has been a porn version of LSOH, called "Please Don't Eat My Mother". I haven't seen this and I don't think I want to!
  • There's also been a cartoon called "Little Shop" on Fox Kids TV, featuring Audrey and Seymour as kids, Mushnik as the "Dad", and a friendly plant called Twoey, who would rap.
  • The 1986 movie grossed $38,747,000.
  • Ellen Greene, who plays Audrey in the film, you probably won't recognize as being a famous film star. She played Audrey on Broadway in the USA.
  • It supposedly took Steve Martin six weeks to film all his scenes.
  • Bill Murray ad-libbed his lines.
  • All the scenes were filmed entirely in, what was then, the largest studio set in the world, called 007 in London. They did not want to shoot on location, because it would ruin the fantastical mood of the film.
  • Steve Martin cut his hands while filming the scene in which his character pushes open the double swinging doors to Audrey's apartment complex.
  • Frank Oz, the directer, appears in the movie! He's a salesman who tries to get Seymour to sign a contract during "The Meek Shall Inherit".
  • Levi Stubbs, who does the voice for Audrey II, is better known for his being in the blues group "The Four Tops".
  • In the end sequence, when Audrey and Seymour have got married and run into their house, you see Crystal and Ronette walk past.. but you only see Chiffon's legs. It's her stand-in, because Tisha Campbell could not be there, because the alternative ending was shot a month later.
  • Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold, who played Chiffon and Crystal, were in a sitcom "Martin" together before making the movie. Tisha also went on to star in "School Daze", and had multiple guest performances in various sitcoms such as "A Different World." She then tried a singing career in the early 90s.
  • Patrick Martin was originally cast as Sixteen Candles' Paul Dooley.
  • The special edition DVD with the extended ending, the deleted scenes etc, was pulled off the shelves because David Geffen was furious and claimed he'd not given permission for the deleted scenes to be released.
  • Ellen Green is married to one of the men who operated the plant. They met when Audrey was almost eaten by the Audrey II.
  • In the scenes with the larger Audrey II, the plant's movements were made so smooth by shooting in slow motion (16 frames per second as opposed to 24). This means that Rick Moranis had to act and lip-synch in slow motion.
  • When she's ready to marry Seymour, Audrey is seen wearing two different wedding dresses in back to back scenes. One skirt has lace and the other is taffeta.
