JOHN GRANGE

SPIES OF DESTINY
Jim Anthony, Super-Detective, an Irish-American, and a son of a Comanche Princess, he was a super-detective in the mold of Doc Savage and appeared in his own pulp magazine beginning in October 1940 and lasting until October 1943. John Grange was a house name. The first three novels in the series were written by Victor Rousseau. From number 16 to the end, they were written by Robert Leslie Bellem (author of Dan Turner, Hollywood Detective) and W. T. Ballard. The authorship on novels 4 through 15 has not been ascertained. The two stories in this collection fall into that latter category.

SPIES OF DESTINY--The Red Dragon roared and murder followed murder! It struck at foreign diplomats. It struck at Jim Anthony and the girl he loved. And it led him on a trail of danger and intrigue to the world's spy capital--Lisbon!

I.O.U. MURDER--The grief of the little old lady wasn't recorded on the police blotter, but it was a factor Jim Anthony took into account in the murder case. Maybe it meant more to him than the wiles of a beautiful, scheming widow.

MRS. BIG
JIM ANTHONY SUPER DETECTIVE: Son of a Comanche princess with powers of deduction greater than the average man. Originally published in Super-Detective pulp magazine for February and April 1942, we present two of his stories.

MRS BIG--It all started as a joke, but in the end it spelled death--horrible death for those who had earned the hatred of a crazy woman torturer. From Jim Anthony's first glimpse of one girl victim, he took more than a casual detective's interest in solving the case.

COLD TURKEY--Jim was impatient of going to one night club after another--until he met murder in one of them. And the case of the smuggled diamonds seemed strangely tied up with the fate of a small conquered nation, trying to oust an oppressor. And with the case of a jealous woman trying to avenge her lover.

MARK OF THE SPIDER
NEEDLE'S EYE--Terrible are the passions that make for murder! And none stranger than those Jim Anthony finds in the case of the artist's ex-wife and the men who would kill for her.

MARK OF THE SPIDER--Many a time Jim Anthony had saved his life by his ability to predict a criminal's next move. But here he had to cope with a capricious woman--now cruel, now tender. Ready to kill, today--and tomorrow willing to betray a murderer...

THE DAYS OF DEATH--”Jim came into the case because an innocent friend was accused of murder. But it wasn't long before he knew that the next death might be his own—or that of the girl he loved.

THE CARIBBEAN CASK--”The Cask of Columbus, with his message to the King of Spain, was a rare treasure to find after four hundred and fifty years! But before he came to the end of that trail of murder, Jim began to think the fabled message had been written in blood.
