NORTH RANCH

The North Ranch (also known as Sutton Ranch) was located in the northeast area of Thousand Oaks and the western section of Oak Park. The western street set was located northwest of the intersection of Kanan Road and Lindero Canyon Road (see square in aerial photo below). The current street Falling Star Avenue from addresses 1505 to 1529 coincides with the back side of the sets on the east side of the western street. The back yards of these 3 residences coincide with the sets on the west side of the western street. The street was apparently built for "Texas Across the River" (1966). Some buildings in the set were complete shells, not just facades. They were all torn down in the early 1970's. The fort gate and guard tower (see circle in aerial photo below) seen in reverse angle shots in the television show "Hondo" (1967) was built approximately at the southwest corner of the property located at 5733 White Cloud Circle near Pathfinder Avenue. This location is south/southwest of the western street location.

An aerial view of a portion of the ranch. The western street is in the square. The "Hondo" fort entrance is in the circle.

DIRECTIONS: From Los Angeles, take the 101 freeway west (north) to Agoura Hills. Exit at Lindero Canyon Road and head north (right). At the intersection of Lindero Canyon Road and Kanan Road, you will be in the middle of the old North Ranch. It was approximately here where the western street set was located.
