Interviews

Transcript: 'Electra - Practice and Performance' panel with Deborah Warner and Fiona Shaw, chaired by Adrian Poole of Trinity College, Cambridge, author of Tragedy: Shakespeare and the Greek Example and the forthcoming A Very Short Introduction to Tragedy.

Another transcript of a Warner/Shaw chat, this time regarding Medea. Another Guardian transcript of a chat with Shaw and Warner, this one by Bel Littlejohn.

An interesting profile of Fiona from the London Theater Guide. It's fairly old, but reveals a lot about her personality.

Interview with LaFione taken during/shortly after the filming of "The Last September." Some funny bits, references to Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon as the de facto leaders of the cast.

Excellent, juicy article includes the picture with the divine leg shot. Still, the Potter franchise has had some effect on her life. “It’s all-pervasive,” she admits. “It’s everywhere I go. The other day I was having my dinner out of doors at a medieval festival near Assisi. I was with all these people wearing medieval garments; and of course in no time a thousand little boys under ten came up. It’s amazing how they spot me … but it’s not a bad thing . I think there’s a moment where it becomes really horrible and I’m in the pre-horrible stage. It’s not unpleasant to have people know you if you’re in Rome. You feel, well, if you fell down in the street someone would give you an ice-cream or something.

Gawd, she's cute!: BBC4 radio interview. That said she recently met one child who told her she couldn't possibly play aunt Petunia because her neck wasn't long enough! "You know how brilliantly accurate they are about every aspect of the books," she laughs. And did she take any notice? "Well…I've been lengthening my neck since."

Very short article in New York Metro. I particularly like this one: Where do you stay in the city? The Upper West Side. I can see the river, which is just fantastic because you know all rivers are the same river in the end -- and they’re all rivers I’ve known. Such a Fiona line.

Odds and Ends

Illuminations, a production company, has two short profiles of Warner/Shaw productions. Nothing new, information-wise, but the profile for The Wasteland has a FIERCELY androgynous picture of Fiona that I love. Also profiled, Richard II. She made Wikipedia!: I especially like She was known for her wild antics in Shakespearian plays. Go girl...
