The Hard Drive
The hard drive of your PC is the main data centre, it is where everything is "kept" or "put away" in the times when you are not using your computer. The hard drive is the most important piece of hardware for permanent storage in your PC. The reason it is better than a Floppy Disc Drive is because of three things: size (in this case size does matter), permanence (it is stuck inside of your computer and many screws discourage your from moving it) and lastly speed!
Some of the areas that your hard drive greatly help out in your computer are:
Performance - The hard drive is a major contender in the overall performance of your PC. When you boot up your computer the hard drive is the one that determines the speed at which programs are loaded. Also, when multitasking or running many programs or large programs at once, the hard drive is the one who has to "handle" all of them.Storage Capacity - Well, this is self explanatory, the larger your hard drive the more space you have to store files and data. Duh. Just Joking.
Reliability - A way to see how important a piece of hardware is, is to see how your PC functions without it. In case your hard drive is one of the most important items of hardware you have, without it you wouldn't be doing any computing anytime soon. Once you lose your hard disc you lose all your data and saved files with it. So, with proper backup saving you could save yourself a lot of grief!
