Lyrics Post - suukhii bagiyaa harii hu_ii - hamaarii baat - 1943 Singers - Parul Ghosh, Male Voice MD - Anil Biswas (The first post in 'Anilda Series') Ask C Ramchandra. Ask O P Nayyar. Ask Roshan. Ask Lata. Ask Talat. Ask anybody steeped in the Golden Era of Hindi Film Music (1931 to 1955/60) about the music directors whose presence blessed those years and one of the first, if not THE first, name mentioned would be that of Anil Biswas. Naturally, he has loomed large over rmim. Posters have exhausted superlatives. A beautiful compilation of about 90 songs has been put together to honour him and another one equally good, with a new set of 90 songs, can be put together. Even after years of immersion in his music, he continues to beckon and surprise and amaze, as all great artists do. A lyrics series dedicated to his songs would be an appropriate device to keep ourselves engulfed in nostalgia for his genius. For the first post in the series, I have picked a sentimental favourite from Hamaarii Baat - 'suukhii bagiyaa harii huii'. The second post will cover a song he sang for another music director (Vasant Kumar Naidu) in Lalaji. I will think aloud a few thoughts about the series in the second post tomorrow. When the song 'suukhii bagiyaa' was played to Anil Biswas about 20 years ago, he could pick the female voice in the duet to be Parul Ghosh's. But the male voice's identity remains unknown. The enunciation snatches at the words. My copy of the song is noisy which doesn't help in deciphering the words. The lyrics were supplied to me from the film's booklet by Hamraaz. With the words known beforehand, it is not difficult to follow what the singers are saying. The song is a masterpiece. It is amazing how an unknown male singer could leave such an impress on the song. Parul, the unknown male, the instrumental pieces make for a stupendous sum which dances straight to the listener's heart with Anilda being the unifying force behind the miracle. - dn % \startsong \stitle{suukhii bagiyaa harii hu_ii}% \film{Hamaarii Baat}% \year{1943}% \starring{Devika Rani, Jairaj, Mumtaz Ali, David, Suraiya, Rajkumari Shukla, (which?)
