Browns Woods
Tucked between St. Margaret's Road, Mill Creek and Martin's Cove on a 400-acre peninsula north of the Naval Station in Annapolis, several of the families trace their decent from Dr. Joshua Brown, the Howard County physician who, between 1840 and 1850, purchased 185 acres bordering Mill Creek for his apple and pear plantation. In 1984, this 120-year old enclave was a stable, poor community of some 135 houses, including 600 people who trace their existence to a plantation that existed on the peninsula. Longstanding families who remained the heart of the community included the Andersons, the Bradsheers, the Hensons, the Hunts, the Johnsons, the Tuckers, and the Thompsons.
