Chapter 22

Anakin left Padme’s bedroom and began walking around the living room, making sure everything was secure, before heading out onto the balcony and looking and scanning the area to make sure that everything was fine. Once everything was clear, Anakin went back inside the apartment. He locked the door, made sure that all the windows and entrances were all locked too, and then he stood in the middle of the living room.

Anakin closed his eyes, so that way, he could absorb the silence that was all around him. He also noticed that it was rising the lack of physical noise that bolstered his mental connection to that, was that subtle realm of the Force. He also could feel the life that was all around him, as it was clear, as if his five physical senses were all attuned to everything that was in the apartment and even all around it. Through the Force, he could see the region all about him very clearly, and he could also sense any kind of disturbance that was in the Force. Then, something caught Anakin’s attention. He opened his eyes and looked around the room. His hand went for his lightsaber, but he suddenly stopped, when he realized who it was that was in the hallway outside the door.

“ Captain Typho has more than enough men downstairs, so no assassin will try to get into that way. So, is there activity up here?” Obi-Wan walked into the apartment and he looked curiously around the room, before his gaze settled on Anakin.

“ Well, it is quiet as a tomb. You do know that I really do not like just waiting around here for something to happen.” Anakin looked at his Master, before giving him a frustrated look.

Obi-Wan gave a little shake of his head, showing a little resignation concerning Anakin’s predictability. He took a view scanner from his belt and checked the screen, then, his expression shifted from curious to confused to concerned, which spoke in volumes to Anakin. He could only see part of Padme’s bedroom, which was only the door area and then all he saw was R2-D2 standing by the wall, and that was all. The Jedi Knight’s expression asked the question, before he could even speak the words.

“ Padme . . . I mean Senator Amidala, covered the Cam. I guess you can say, she really did not like me watching her.” Anakin was trying to explain to Obi-Wan, as to why Padme covered up the Cam that was in her bedroom.

“ What she is thinking? Her security is paramount and is compromised.” Obi-Wan’s face tensed up, as he let out a little growl.

“ She has programmed R2, so that way, he can warn us, if there is an intruder.” Anakin explained, as he was trying to calm Obi-Wan, before his concern could gain any real momentum.

“ It is not an intruder that I am worried about, or not merely an intruder. There are many ways to kill the Senator.” Obi-Wan countered his concern.

“ I know that, but we also want to catch this assassin, don’t we Master?” Anakin’s tone was determined and even stubborn.

“ So, you are using her as bait?” Obi-Wan asked incredulously, as his eyes widened with total shock and disbelief.

“ Hey, it was her idea. Don’t worry, no harm will come to her. I can sense everything that is going on in that room. Trust me, Obi-Wan.” Anakin protested, but in his tone was sharp, and that he clearly he agreed with the plan.

“ It is way too risky. Besides, your senses are not that attuned, my young apprentice.” Obi-Wan looked at Anakin and gave him scolding look.

“ And yours are Master?” Anakin tried not to sound defensive, but to sound somewhat suggestive.

“ Possibly.” Obi-Wan could not deny the look of intrigue that crossed his face, before he admitted. (pages 82-83 from the novel Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones by R. A. Salvatore)
