Tamora Pierce

One of my very favorite writers for many years. She is a young adult writer, but her books are simply fantastic. Her best series, in my opinion, is the Immortal series- based around Daine and Numair. Wild Magic and its companions (four books in the series) always make me laugh, feel empowered, and slightly hopeful for the future. Check out the books here.

Amanda Quick

A fantastic historical romance writer. Her books are witty, hilarious and sexy. The women are strong, if sometimes quirky, and combine wonderfully with her men. Desire is easily my favorite book of hers. I laughed the entire time and highly recommend the read. She also writes under Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle, so you can find other romance genres with the same wonderful voice. Check out all she has to offer at this site.

Mercedes Lackey

A truly unique fantasy author. Her world of Valdemar is unbelievingly detailed with both character and plot. A lot of her books are great, but I would suggest either her "Winds of" series or her "Owl" series. The characters in those are very interesting. Here is a link to her official site.

Christine Feehan

A wonderful writer of paranormal romance. I read The Scarlette Curse years ago and loved it. She now has several other series running and has gained popularity. I would recommend the GhostWalker series. Her Dark series, which involves vampires, is very good too. Here is her official site.

James Patterson

He is a great author who works a lot with crime books. He delves into the psyche of both the killers and their victims. In general he knows what he's talking about and his books are believable and entertaining. I especially liked Violets are Blue and Kiss the Girls. Here is his official site.
