Overview:

Only given partial plans for this Star Adder assault mech, Quantum Tech's engineers had their work cut out to figure out how the Clanners intended to give this 95-ton beast the speed of a heavy mech.

Looking at the intended weapons loadout, it was clear why it was necessary. With twin LB20-X autocannon and quad heavy medium lasers, this thing needed to be able to close the range on its targets. It also led some to speculate this was intended as a specialised assault mech hunter.

Capabilities:

The quartet of heavy medium lasers, which make up the Warthog's backup weaponry, were always going to cause heat issues, but in this instance the Skunkworks team decided to keep them and put the heat they generated to good use. Installing a MASC system enabled them to install a smaller engine, but still achieve a top speed of 64kph, with elevated heat levels. It also left enough tonnage and space to install the twin heavy autocannon, but they realised if they did this, there would be insufficient remaining to install the twin ATM missile racks, also specified in the blueprints.

In order to keep the missile launchers, QTI's engineers fell back on the tried and trusted gauss rifle / ERPPC combo, to provide heavy ranged firepower. With 16 double heat sinks, the ERPPC also helps generate the necessary heat to activate the MASC. Protected by 17.5 tons of armour, this new design, dubbed "Warthog II" by Quantum Tech, is fast, heavy hitting AND hard to take down.
