Overview:
At the Andromeda naval yard, Cygnet recently completed construction of their first battleship. The Amazon was hurriedly commissioned by the BCAF, realising that, despite its recent overhaul, the Admiral Hood was a very old vessel that could not be expected to remain part of the Coalition's front line defences indefinitely. Apart from that, the Hood was the only battleship in the fleet and flagships would be needed for the Eastern and Southern Fleets, when they came into service.
Capabilities:
Mindful of the dockyard's limitations, the design team opted for a modest-sized vessel. The Amazon is 300,000 tons smaller than the Monsoon class it replaces, yet carries roughly the same amount of weaponry, more armour and more fighters.
A relatively slow ship, the designers gave the Amazon a large number of extreme range weapons, including over 80 naval lasers and PPCs as well as 16 heavy missile launchers. A dozen class 30 naval autocannon provide heavy medium to long range firepower.
As has become Cygnet's custom, antiair defences are provided by batteries of large pulse lasers and anti-missile systems. A pair of screen launchers mounted in the stern provide protection against anti-ship missiles. The ship boasts nineteen hundred tons of armour as it's primary defence.
Amazon class battleships carry a full wing of aerospace fighters, divided between 3 bays and up to 8 shuttlecraft. Other noteworthy features include a lithium fusion battery, enabling double jumps and a hyperpulse generator, allowing the ship to remain in contact with fleet headquarters at all times.
Notable Vessels & Crews:
The Amazon is the first of her class. Upon entering service, construction will begin on four sister ships - one for each fleet plus one reserve / training vessel.
