Overview:

After their work on the Arctic Bear assault mechs, the designers at Coldstream toyed with the idea of a similarly configured assault mech, with an energy weapon bias.

Using a spare prototype chassis, they re-designed the weapon bays and changed the placement of the ammo bins...and presto, the Aardvark was born.

Capabilities:

The Aardvark, like the Arctic Bear, is primarily a brawler, built to get up close and personal with the opposition.

The primary difference is that, thanks to it's twin ERPPCs, its less ammo dependent than the Bear and also quite handy at long range.

Featuring a standard, chassis, engine and armour (with the maximun 19.5 tons allocated) its a rugged, uncomplicated beast. It also has enough heatsinks to either fire both particle cannon or all its lasers and both Streak SRM racks at once, meaning it can deliver a lethal punch at any range.

An ECM suite was fitted - a standard feature of most Coldstream designs - for additional protection.

Battle History:

Though only a handful of these mechs have been produced to date, they have already seen action in the Word of Blake invasion of the Coalition.

Variants:

The AVK-01 was created by removing the batteries of medium lasers and SRMs, replacing them with a Targeting Computer, to enhance the effectiveness of the ERPPCs.

A Hatchet and Triple Strength Myomer were also installed, increasing the Aardvark's top speed and making it a deadly brawler as well.

A pair of medium pulse lasers were installed, both as backup weaponry and to help boost the mech's heat levels, to activate the TSM.
