Ara was a lord's daughter in the Kingdom of Tortall. She ran away from home to make a life for herself. She met the Great Mother Goddess in a temple and was given a place in the Queen's Riders. She had given up her previous name and Buriram Tourakom, Commander of the Queen's Riders, gave her the name Forestshadow because she moved so quietly in the forest and because of her knowledge of woodlore. Ara's company gave her the name Ara, a shortened form of aria, because she sang so well. Little did they know how close they came to her real name.
