IT'S ALL ABOUT FRACTIONS

Comparing Fractions with Unlike Denominators: 1. If the numerators are the same, but the denominators are different, the fraction with the smaller denominator is the largest.
2. If the numerators and denominators are both different then you need to change the denominators so they are the same (find the L.C.M.)and then you can compare the two fractions.
Comparing fractions with Like Denominators: The fraction with the smaller denominator is the larger of the two fractions.

A mixed number is a whole number with a fraction. For example - 5 1/2. An improper fraction is when the numberator, or the top part of the fraction, is larger than the denominator. For example - 7/5.
Converting mixed number to an improper fraction
First multiply the denominator with the whole number. Then add the numerator to that number. This number will be the numerator of the improper fraction and the denominator is the same as the mixed number.
For example: 2 3/4 = 11/4
Adding fractions with unlike denominators
First find the LCM of the denominators. Then divide the LCM with each of the denominators, one at a time. Muliply the numerator to the number and that becomes the new numerator. Do the same with the other fraction. Now you can add the fractions. It will usually be an improper fraction, which will need to be changed to a mixed number. Add the whole numbers together.
