Marine
Biology Course Descriptions
Marine Biology 1-2
grade level: 10,11 or 12
prerequisite: introduction to marine science or instructor approval
Marine Biology will extend the concepts learned in Biology 1 and 2, promote problem solving and critical thinking related to issues associated with water, marine organisms, and marine ecosystems. The primary emphasis will be on the organization of marine life and the in-depth study of marine microorganisms, plants, and invertebrates.
Another aspect of the course involves the integration of technology and field experiences. This course allows the student to work with many instruments, devices, and computers to accomplish their work. One of our goals is to have students become comfortable and proficient using technology. This allows students to graduate from the program well equipped to function at a higher level in society and in their continued education.
The course work for each year in the program also enables students to participate in a field experience. This allows students to apply the concepts and skills they have learned in the classroom to a "real world" situation. The field experience for this 2nd year course is an intensive ocean lab workshop working with marine microorganisms, plants and invertebrates.
Applied Marine Science 1-2
grade: 11,12
prerequisite: marine biology 1-2 or instructor approval
Applied Marine Science will extend concepts learned in Marine Biology 1 and 2, promote problem solving and critical thinking related to issues associated with water, marine organisms, and marine ecosystems. The primary emphasis will be on the evolution of marine life and the in-depth study of marine vertebrates and ecology.
Another aspect of the course involves the

their work. One of our goals is to have students become comfortable and

The course work for each year in the
program also enables students to participate in a field experience. This
allows students to apply the concepts and skills they have learned in the
classroom to a "real world" situation. The field experience for this 3rd
year course may include an intensive S.C.U.B.A certification class while working
with different marine life and technology in an ocean setting.
