Mitsu Hoshiko

Hoshiko is a human in her early twenties, in charge of role play in House Valkyrie, this is Hoshiko's story:
About twenty years ago a ship left from Europe. Though it was looked down upon in those times one of the men aboard - most likely the navigator - had brought his pregnant wife aboard. Soon after she gave birth to their daughter there was a terrible tragedy. The ship hit the rough waters near the shores of Japan. Not being familiar with the waters the ship was thrown at the cliffs and crushed in the reefs. The Navigator's wife was found on the silver-sanded shore. In her shivering arms she held a bundle of rags. The woman could say nothing and the simple villagers who found her thought she was some oni, evil sprit, come to eat their souls.
Luckily there was a young boy with curious eyes among the terrified women. He was the one who went to the dying woman. When he drew near the young lad could see that the sea-ravaged woman had turned blue and white. As the small skinny boy lifted the bundle from the woman's shaking arms, his curious eyes saw the mother smile with her blue lips and take her last ragged breath. The boy carried the bundle, though it was almost as big as the small boy, back to the village.
It was not long before gossip spread and even the village's Lord had heard of the mysterious golden haired child. Their Lord was better than most; in that he made regular visits to all the villages and farms under Mitsu rule and made sure to listen to the leader of each community. Still this was a feudal system; Lord Mitsu did this because he had learned that happy workers worked harder. His lady wife had happened along on this trip, her Lord husband indulged her often - in fact whenever he could, and have no one but she think nothing more of it. He often gave her anything she desired.
The man in charge of the small farming village told his lord right away of the strange happenings. Lord Mitsu's wife had to see the child. Her husband agreed that it would be well if they were to see this mystery child. It was again the boy with the curious eyes who came with the babe. Many of the women believed the child to be cursed, so it was up to him to carry this bundle that barely fit in his young arms. He was the one who found milk for the babe and who changed her and comforted her. The boy looked at the silk robbed Lord and Lady and held his breath. Would they take his little bundle? Or would they give in to more supperstiuos of the village women and cast the little golden haired babe out? What would become of his little kami? As soon as the Lady Mitsu's mahogany eyes beheld the pale skinned she babe it was as though she was entranced. More down-to-Earth women later said that it was the Lady's inability to give her Lord a child that brought about this odd behavior. Others said the child had cast a spell on her, for as the boy believed the little sun haired baby to be a kami many still thought her to be an evil oni sent to ruin them all.
In the end it matters little. The Lord and Lady Mitsu took the baby home with them. They adopted her into their family giving her their name and her own Mitsu Hoshiko. Hoshiko was happy with her family. They treated her as though she were a child of the Lady's womb. The Mitsu's never had children of their own. When Hoshiko turned fifteen they prayed to the Kami and began to speak to their Daimyo of allowing Hoshiko to inherit the family when they were gone. Of course there would be an arranged wedding, Hoshiko would not be allowed to run the family any more then a natural born Japanese woman would. Hoshiko lived a blessed and cuddled life. She gave much of her life to Shinto and the softer pursuits. Lord Mitsu made sure though that she was worthy of the Samurais cast. Hoshiko would never balk at a fight though she would much rather fold origami or arrange ikebana.
And though Hoshiko loved her family and wanted to do her honor and repay the Mitsu's by helping carry on their line, Hoshiko still wondered what her birth mother had called her. She was desperate to escape from this lore soaked world where she was often called golden one or kamis sun shine. The girl inside Hoshiko just wanted to know who she was. So with her family's permission Hoshiko set out. The Mitsu's grieved for her as though she were dead. They never thought to see her again in this life. Hoshiko feared in her heart of hearts that her beloved parents were right. But she could not continue like this, so she tried to booked passage on a boat to China and began her search.
Here she ran into her first real hurtle. No one was gong to allow a woman with the look of an oni about her onto their ship. She has no need to worry about food. She was of the Samurai cast, and as such never had to handle money for it was a dirty thing and beneath her station. She stayed at fine inns and was well looked after. Hoshiko would go and stand on the shore of her little world and sigh, straining her eyes to see Chinas distant shore. Then the golden haired young lady would sit in a tatami room and sip tea. There was a Geisha that liked Hoshiko, this woman would come and sit with her and pour her tea even though Hoshiko did not pay her. This white faced woman would also tell Hoshiko of the latest gossip. One morning she told Hoshiko of a gaijin wreck just north of here. It seems that they had been sailing looking for new ports and made the same mistake as in the ghost like story of her past. It seemed that they were not to be helped in anyway. The plan was to ignore them and let them die of their own ignorance. The lady Mitsu had a plan.
Hoshiko went to the map guild and with many promises was able to get fair copies of the charts she needed. The lady kept her ears open and asked small questions and found that the gaijins ship only needed small repairs and that the crew had already made most of them. She then went to the local villages and was able to get large carts and large amounts of food. Hoshiko knew that was she had gathered would only be a good will wish to a sea voyage but she wanted to make an impression of power on these men, the more she could show she could control the easier her task would become. Now all she worried was the one of them spoke Spanish. She did not speak their barbarian tong, only that of the filthy priests.
When the time came Hoshiko put on her finest Kimono and obi. She placed all of her finest hair orduments just so. She led a small parade out to the wreck site. And she was disgusted at what she found. The smell was over powering. Their skin was so dark. Not black but very tan. She wondered why they would let themselves get burned like that. Hoshiko swallowed her disgust and approached them speaking in Spanish. Finally after she had made herself horse with screaming one of the men came over. He smelled as though he hadnt bathed in a year and looked it too. His orange hair was dark and matted. There was stubble on his face. "My lady what brings you too us with all this fan fair? His voice was scratchy."
"I the Lady Mitsu Hoshiko, wish to book passage on your vessel once it is sea worthy. I have brought with me a small gift of food." She motioned and the workers brought the food carts forward. "Please accept this as a token of my good will."
More of the men were gathering near, speaking in tongs she had never herd before. The first on nodded, "Thank you my Lady Mitsu, but we know not how to get out of these seas without again crashing. You should book passage with one of your native ships." The men eyed the food carts hungrily.
Hoshiko drew herself up and found that she could not look down on this man as she did the men of her world. But she gathered her dignity none the less and said, "I have asked to book passage with you. I would not have done so without good cause and faith. I have the necessary charts. Again I ask to book passage on this vessel."
The first man talked to the others in that harsh clipped sounding tong and then looke back to her with a smile on his dirty tan face, "My Lady Mitsu we would be glad to have you upon our ship. We will be ready to leave in a matter of days."
"I will return in three." She said and turned away. Hoshiko did return and they set sail. She soon found that these men were ruffians, akin to the worst ronin. But she also found that they treated her with great respect. They viewed her as a good omen. And she might have been. The seas were calm and the winds just right. They made great speed, though it was still a long journey.
Hoshiko traveled for two years before she found a land that had people who looked like her. They made land fall and her journey grew even starker. The people were only like her on the out side. They were such brutes the language so rough. They stank; soon the little Japanese raised blonde found out that these people almost never bathed. She was terrified by these barbarians and almost turned back. Luckily she soon ran into one of the Valkyries.
Hoshiko was at an inn when she ran into a woman with hair as golden as her own. But her ears were pointed and her face bore strange markings like some oni. It must be noted that Viora has bright tattoos on her face due to her worship of Unicorns. But Hoshiko knew not but that this woman was the oddest thing she has seen since her travels had begun. Nonetheless Hoshiko did not falter when this strange person spoke to her. Soon she has become quite interested in the odd woman's story. Viora took the girl back to the Valkyries where she was soon taken in. Viora left Hoshiko in her place for there was a quest that the Unicorn maiden had to attend to. And before long Hoshiko felt as though she had found her family. And as such she swore to make their cause her own.
