Fruits Basket is a cute story, and though
it seems like a love story at them
beginning, it has something for everyone. The story is about Tohru
Honda, an
orphaned 16 year old, she was living with her grandpa but then decided
that she
was a burden and went to live in the woods. She is eventually found
by two
people of the Sohma family, Shigure Sohma (27) and Yuki Sohma(17).
They both
insist Tohru stay with them for a while, so she does, everything
seems great
until Kyo Sohma shows up, Yuki's hot tempered 17 year old cousin,
and he kinda
hates Yuki. Tohru quickly discovers the Sohma family curse, when
a member of the
Sohma family is hugged by a member of the opposite gender they change
into an
animal of the Chinese zodiac. This is a kind of action/comedy/drama/romance,
many of the episodes will have you laughing for hours. It's a great
anime with
beautiful art and music.
Ranma 1/2, by the famous mangaka Rumiko Takahashi, is one of
the most popular
anime to come out of Japan! It's a hilarious martial arts comedy.
Ranma Saotome
(17) and his father Genma go to train in China. While there they
fall into the
cursed springs of Jusenkyo! (there are thousands of spings)Now
Ranma turns into
a red headed female and his father turns into a panda! Ranma gathers
a horde of
fiancee's along the way, thanks to his dad most of the time. Then
the girls he's
"engaged" to ,usually have their own suitors, so all
in all, everyone is usually
trying to kill boy type or girl type Ranma! This anime has all
kinds of fighting
to martial arts cheerleading (yeah cheerleading) all the way to
martial arts
cook offs and martial arts ice skate competition! It's great and
guardteed to
make you laugh for hours!
Inu Yasha, another anime by the crazy Rumiko Takahashi, is a
historical/ fantasy
manga. A magical well on her family's land takes Kagome (15),
back to feudal
Japan, where shediscovers she's the reincarnation of some priestess
who guarded
a magical jewel, and she frees an evil and horrible half demon.
Inu Yasha. The
story revolves around people trying to posess the Shikon no Tama,a
special pink
glass marble....yeah....Due to some accident Kagome kinda split
the Shikon no
Tama into lots of little shards and they scattered all over Japan.
So now Kagome
and Inu Yasha, now under Kagome's control thanks to a magical
necklace, venture
out to find all the shards before any bad demons find it. Along
the way they
meet some interesting people, Shippo, a cute little fox demon
boy , Miroku,
perverted Buddhist priest and others.
Houshin Engi (Soul Hunter) is really one of those animes, that's
better as a
manga. But nonetheless, it's good! It does a little computer animation
with
regular, which sometimes gives it a choppy appearance. Females
would probably
like this one more, there is alot of fighting and war stuff and
politics, but
the cast is mainly male. There's about 3 females int he whole
series. The story
is about Taikoubou, a god in training...kinda. He's sent to on
a weird mission,
Project Houshin, to seal away spirits that will become gods. That's
what the
subbed version tells you anyways. Taikoubou is a lazy, stubborn,
and often
stupid guy, his weapon is a radio antenna that controls weather
and he flies
around on a giant Hippo. The subtitled version leaves alot to
be desired, such
as subtitles that don't go off the screen.... I have yet to see
the dubbed
version for fear of voices ^-^
