SEASON REPORT CARD
Round 1
2 disposals, 1 mark
Started off well and took a strong mark in the opening minutes, but was
unfortunately injured in the first quarter and could not come back on for
the entire match. Sustained an adductor injury but has been named for
Round 2’s match against the Eagles.
Round 2
13 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal
Probably not performing as we saw him do in the latter part of 2002, but
fought back into a little bit of form. Picked up 13 disposals and provided
some toughness around the contests. Is still very young, and it’s very
exciting to know his best is still ahead of him.
Round 3
12 disposals, 5 marks
Struggled a little up forward in the first half, being matched up by
former Brownlow Medallist Gavin Wanganeen. Was pushed back to defence in
the second half and worked hard to stop the run of Port Adelaide goals.
May be played in the back-line again if needed, as he clearly has the
aggression and toughness.
Round 4
21 disposals, 6 marks
Looks very comfortable playing down back, and was again impressive in a
stopping role, this week on Nick Davis. Kept Davis to just two goals, and
was brilliant on the rebound with 21 possessions. Once again showed plenty
of courage in packs and took some very strong marks.
Round 5
13 disposals, 7 marks
Continuing to fight back into some good form. Brown was once again solid
in what was a disappointing day all round for the Hawks. Picked up 13
kicks and took seven strong marks. One of the hardest players at the footy
in the team, who possesses a lot of good leadership skills.
Round 6
10 disposals
Manned up on young gun Jarrod Waite and probably took him too lightly in
the first half, allowing him to get quite a bit of the football. Produced
some good football in the second half and seems to be continually
improving his form.
Round 7
13 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal
Didn’t really have much of an impact on the match due to being isolated
in defence and not being given much ground time. Is a talented player who
can play down back or forward, but must be given more time on the ground
to have an impact.
Round 8
12 disposals, 3 marks
Had a tough task on dangerous Essendon small forward Damien Cupido.
Probably took the points around the ground but Cupido still managed three
goals. A tough youngster who will only continue to improve as the season
goes on.
Round 9
6 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal
Another solid effort from the tough youngster. Never shirks a contest and
is a good overhead mark.
Round 10
14 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal
A workman-like performance from the gritty Hawk. His second efforts are a
feature of his game, and what he lacks in pace he makes up for with pure
determination. Kicked an opportunistic goal to keep the Hawks in touch.
Round 11
8 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal
The statistics don’t tell the game that Campbell Brown played. Picked up
just the eight possessions, but showed guts and determination for the
entire day. Injured an A/C Joint at one contest after throwing himself in
front of an oncoming Nigel Smart, a brilliant act of courage that resulted
in the Hawks rebounding and kicking a goal.
