DOHC Engine

Pic1)Introduced in 1989, the 2.0 DOHC (Double Over-Head Cam) engine replaced the 2.0 OHC Pinto. Available in either carburettor or fuel injection formats.Pic2) Development of the Cosworth engine began in 1982 as a naturally aspirated, (non turbo) 16-valve DOHC engine. Ford planned to use this engine, but turbocharged it. Production began in 1986.

• -1998cc DOHC engine. 4 cylinder in-line. Sequential twin venturi carburettor and electronic breakerless ignition. Max output 109PS (DIN) at 5600rpm. Max torque 174Nm (DIN) at 3000rpm. 0-60mph in 9.7 seconds. 29.7mpg on a simulated urban cycle rising to 50.4mpg at a constant 56mph.
• - 1998cc DOHC EFi engine with or without Catalytic converter. Electronic fuel injection and Ford EEC IV engine management system. Max output - 120PS (DIN) at 5500rpm. Max torque - 171Nm (DIN) at 2500rpm. 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds. 30.7mpg on a simulated urban cycle rising to 48.7mpg at a constant 56mph.
• -1993cc DOHC ‘Cosworth’. 4 cylinders in-line, 16 valve. Weber-Marelli multi-point fuel injection. Garrett AiResearch T03 Turbocharger with intercooler, boost pressure 9psi. Max output 204PS (DIN) at 6000rpm. Max torque 276Nm at 4500rpm. 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, Max speed 150mph. 22.1mpg on a simulated urban cycle rising to 35.3mpg at a constant 56mph.
• -1993cc DOHC ‘Cosworth’. 4 cylinders in-line, 16 valve. Weber-Marelli microprocessor controlled multi point fuel injection, with 8 injectors. Thicker walled block for motorsport use. Garret T31/T04 turbocharger, with a larger intercooler. Uprated fuel pump. Oil and engine cooling system also improved. Max output 224PS (DIN) at 6000rpm. Max torque 206 lb/ft at 4500rpm. 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds, Max speed 153mph. Genuine RS500 Cosworth engines should be labelled between YBD0015 and YBD0537.
• -1993 DOHC ‘Cosworth’(Catalytic converter). 4 cylinders in-line, 16 valve. Weber-Marelli multipoint fuel injection. Garret AiResearch T03B Turbocharger with 25% larger intercooler than the 2WD Cosworth. Boost pressure 9psi. Max output 220PS (DIN) at 6000rpm (6250rpm w/cat). Max torque 214 lb/ft at 3,500rpm. 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds, Max speed 150mph. 22.1mpg on a simulated urban cycle rising to 37.2mpg at a constant 56mph. *revised head and stronger block to prevent head gasket failure which affected the 2wd Sapphire and 3 door Cosworth’s*.
