Commissioning from AFROTC

December 19, 2003

Commissioning, for me, was an even more awesome and special experience than graduation. It meant that all my studies and hard work had finished and was being rewarded by the opportunity to serve my country in the United States Air Force. The feeling that your goals had been met and your dreams were about to begin is one that can only be known by those who experience it. I graduated and commissioned out of Colorado State University (go Rams!) in the presence of my wife and parents. Along with seven other cadets, we each took turns taking the stage with our commissioning officials to take the oath of office. If you haven't read it before, it is something that every good officer should remember from time to time:

"I, FULL NAME, having been appointed a Second Lieutenant, in the United States Air Force, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter. SO HELP ME GOD"
