An Ode To Rachel

Me, Andy and Rachel
November 2005

It was fall of 2005 and I was taking my second level Anatomy and Physiology class.
My friend, Julie knew of this really cool person who was in my same class. Julie
told me to try to find this person named Rachel when I got to class. Well, I got to class
and sat down. Shortly after that, the instructor began taking attendence. She when
she called my name, this adorable blonde sitting one chair over from me said,
"You're Stefany?!?! Your friend Julie said that I should meet you!" I said, "Rachel???"
We intoduced ourselves and the rest is pretty much history. We became fast friends.
As fate/luck would have it, we were both accepted to our nursing program at the
same time...this has only given our friendship a chance to grow even more!

She would blush if you told her, but I will tell you that she is one of the most thoughtful
people I know. She just has this incredibly special sparkle in her eyes, like a modern
day Marilyn Monroe. She has been there for me through some pretty rough times,
always there was an open ear and supportive love. This doesn't even mention how many
times that woman has saved my ass! There is one particular time I will never forget.
It was our third semester of nursing school and since we lived so near each other, we
decided to car pool to our clinicals at the VA. It was her turn to drive so she said she
would pick me up at 6:15am. I was cuddled in bed that morning when I heard my name
being called. I thought it was a dream, so I fluffed the pillow under my head and turned over.
Not ten seconds later, I hear it again. "What the hell?" I thought to myself, waking up a bit
more. I glanced over at my alarm clock: 6:30am it read. Panic surged through my body! I immediately
jumped out of bed and ran to my door. No one was there. More confused than ever, I shut the door when I heard my name being called again. It was coming from outside! So I ran over to my window (in my underware!) to find Rachel standing beneith my window in the yard of my apartment building. "Oh my God, Rachel!" I shouted, "I am SOOOOOO SOOOOOORRY!" I told her to just go ahead without me but she refused. She told me to hurry up and she'd be waiting in the parking lot for me. Now is that a good friend or what? I am a moron who sets her alarm clock for PM instead of AM and yet Rachel isn't going to let me be late to clinicals! There are so many more times she saved my ass! She is truly an angel to me, I don't know what I would do with out her sometimes!

Nursing school has been so much more fun with her there. She is hilarious, always the first one to mutter
a dirty joke or reference to me under her breath during school or clinical at the moment when it would be
the most inappropriate to laugh out loud. She and I go to Ruby Tuesday for luch each week and discuss
what kind of nursing we want to do that particular week. She is just great! She always remembers
my birthday, is there for a hug when I need it and is just plain cool! I LOVE YOU, RACHEL!!!
