Six Flags Great America Trip Report 10/20/02
Six Flags Frightfest 10/20/02
Only one more weekend till Six Flags Great America closes for the season
Left for the park at 2:30pm today and made it there shortly after 3:00pm. The park was pretty crowded today but that is always the case the last couple of weekends of Frightfest.
Drove forever trying to find a parking spot, the back section was not filled which was a relief but drove all over trying to find a spot.
While I was searching on the East side of the lot, I saw the track pieces for Shockwave laying side-by-side. It is so sad to see this coaster leaving the park, it was always such a classic but I at least got to ride it a few times earlier this season and took plenty of pictures of the ride and on-ride pics while I was aboard. The newer track pieces have arrived for the new Superman flying coaster and are currently being placed in the back employee lot.
Finally parked in lot 41 and it seemed pretty warm at that point. I actually dressed warmer, go figure! I left my gloves in the car (big mistake) and chugged 2 bottles of bottled water down on my way to the entrance, which I got through very quickly.
Headed over to the Orbit again this time which I actually had to wait for, but it was worth it since the line moves quickly. Got a bit dizzy on it, which is ok since that is the fun part about rides.
Headed to the Demon, next. The line for this one was also pretty long, but they were running 2 trains. I sat in the back seat and a little kid asked if he could sit next to me. He was a riot! Dude was laughing the whole time and had his hands up in the air the whole time. I wish I would've been that brave as a kid!
Next, headed to Deja Vu where the line was long but not as long as it is when the entire queue line in the covered portion is filled up. This one took awhile. I think it was about an hour and a half before I actually got on. The ride broke down not to long after I went on, perfect timing.
Went to Batman next, where the line was totally filled up!!! a 45 min wait for a 1 min ride. I did have fun on it as always, but stupidly hurt my neck again (just a little bit this time)
Headed to Vertical Velocity, another hour long wait, geez!! Rode near the front and by this time my hands were so cold that I thought they were about to fall off!
Walked past Iron Wolf (the coaster I majorly hurt myself on the last time I rode it). There was no line for this one at all!!! You could just walk onto the ride! Considering the park was packed, I could not believe that!! Still, walked right past it since I am not looking to be an idiot a second time.
Headed for Giant Drop next, another hour long wait! I thought the park was supposed to die down after 6:00pm and here it was an hour before closing time!!
Last but not least went to Raging Bull. Almost the whole queue line was full but since they were running 3 trains, it went pretty fast. Bumped into some people I went to high school with in line which was hillarious! We all just carried on and acted obnoxious. I got the yellow train in the back. As we were going up the lift hill, I saw that the parking lot was still packed and the park was only open for another 15 mins!
Decided to leave after riding Raging Bull rather than getting in another line. I was glad I did since, due to the fact that the parking lot was still full, I got out of the park easily and avoided the mad rush to exit at the end of the night.
Next week is the last weekend for the season and I am trying to decide how to spend the last day there. There is so much I haven't done in the park yet but go on rides. I will probably check out the haunted houses, see a show or do some other cool stuff there rather than wait in those hella long lines since I expect that next weekend will be the busiest of the season.
