Childs Play(1988)
Little Andy, a latchkey child, wants a life size doll he saw on TV for his birthday. His poor single working Mom can't afford it, but luckily(?) finds a bum who has a hot one for sale. Too bad that this doll did not have a warning label on the package saying "this doll may have a soul of a sociopathic murderer." Chucky "the doll" has just that: the soul of a murdering serial killer transferred to it by black magic. Chucky starts doing all kinds of bad things and poor little Andy is getting blamed for it all, of course. Silly as it seems, if you overlook the ridiculous premise you have a decent horror story with some tense action. Though the sequels were not up to snuff with the original, Child's Play pulls it off well. Chucky has lots of fun when he has Detective Norris (Chris Sarandon) trapped in an overturned car. Serves as a good example to parents not to give into your children when they start crying for the latest junk the Saturday Morning Kiddie Shows are pushing. Recommended.
