"Pluto's Realm" Chernobyl photoalbum, 2008

“Spring2008“

Year after year it becomes more difficult to reach those distant villages in Chernobyl; roads overgrown, trees falling and bridges collapse. Below are photos of 2008.

“spring2008“

This shot is from "Nuclear Winter" series.

“spring2008“

This is another from that series.

“spring2008“

This village is undeniably and most reliably dead.

I never bored with looking at Chernobyl dead towns and villages. As I travel the picture moves on, it seems the same: dead towns, villages, abandoned farms... but it is never the same, it is always different.. I never bored from it, like I never bored with looking at the flame of camp-fire or watching the waves of the sea.

Usually you can only take picture of wolf when it is old or terribly sick or dead already. Photographing of wolves do not work because when you show up they hide and when they come out, you run.

On picture my friend checking radiation on that wolf. Of course, wolf on the picture as every decent Chernobyl wolf is radioactive and no use for anything, only for sun to breed maggots.

“Spring2008“

Trees on doorsteps seems want to say that we are not very wellcome here.

“Spring2008.“

This entrance do not look very inviting either.

“spring2008“

Very nice and poetic place by the lake. Shakespeare would say this house is passing through nature to eternity.

“spring2007“

and my counter is passing milliroentgen milestone.

“spring2007“

The beauty of other worlds around this house.

“Spring2008“

Another wild vine decor.

“spring2007“

Fruit trees on their own now, those that will survive fires, huricanes and parasites will remind of a villages for a long time.. In a distant future people will know about those villages only by fruit trees.

“Spring2008“

This barbed wire creates so called "dead zone" around reactor, de jure it is 30 kms zone, but de facto it is 50 kms. Photo taken from inner side.

“Spring2008.“

I wonder if I am alone who think that something is wrong with that house.

“Spring2008“

This used to be a childrens play ground.

“Spring2008“

New tree about to break through asphalt. All civilizations collapsed because the force of nature is unstoppable, while the human strenth is exhaustible. Here, human resistance last no more, Chernobyl is complete bankruptcy of civilization.

“Spring2008“

There are towns with no roads

but, also, there are roads with no towns, like "Green Cape", the entire town is gone. It only exists on road signs.

“Spring2008“

This is how it looks de facto.. not a single building is left there now, no memorial, nothing that indicates the town was there.

“Spring2008“

Green Cape is interesting place, you know, it is here, but it is not there. There are roads, bushes, lake.. but no buildings.

“Spring2008“

Photographing is difficult in this town, for there is nothing left to photograph .. only nothingness left, lot of emptiness build up a creepy feeling.

Green Cape Amen, let's go farther.

“Spring2008“

Just a nice photo

“Spring2008“

A fountain of bushes.

“Spring2008“

Let's visit a Ghost Prison.

“Spring2008“

Prison is the only place in whole town where trees not growing.

“Spring2008“

They refuse grow in prison, too dark for them.

Cell is intact, we can see how post-gulag prison cell looked like.

“Spring2008“

Wall should prevent prisoners from connection with outside world.

In Soviet time most prisoners have served their terms in camps, prison was for detainies, folks on trial.. one could spend in such cell from 3 to 24 month, depending of difficulty of a case.

“Spring2008“

This is prison yard, in a corner is kennel for German shepherd. It is not walk yard, such things as walks, linen and sugar have been luxury in such prison, police could only sugar life of informants.

“Spring2008“

This is another social institution- school.

“Spring2008“

House is gone, bed still stand, making the house look like a grave.

“Spring2008“

“Spring2008“

Another Chernobyl church. This one is neglected, but still intact. This church is not functional since the time when communists killed prists and turned churches into cow-sheds.

“Spring2008“

As I said churches still stand while many memorials of Soviet Time are gone. On a long run it's fair.

“Spring2008“

It's fair on long run.
