NORTH DUNDAS GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, STRAIGHT STUDENT ALLIANCE

WHAT IS OUR MAIN GOALS ?

History: The North Dundas GLBTS Student Alliance first started as two groups. The first one was GLBT, which started on Thursday November 14th 2002. Me Larry Declaire got my GLB friends together and we started the GLBT, while in this group we discovered that we would have to fight harder than any other group at North Dundas District Highschool even to exist. After the holliday's around January 2003 we sat down with our teacher advisor, head guidance councilor, and principal to discuss what we were and what we hope to accomplish. The only thing that came from that was we were to be pushed under the rug and be under head of guidance, meaning we couldn't say we were there, but we could use word of mouth only. Our group then figured that why not get everyone involved with it, not just GLBT students, but also Straight so on Tuesday Feb 11th 2003, we formed GLBT's and Allies. Even though we opened it up we were still not allowed to announce ourselves. During this time we had three guest come in to give our group of four presentations. One was from PFLAG Cornwall and the other two came in to talk to us about Transgender issues. That was it for us, we couldn't even announce that they came, until when Denise from PFLAG Cornwal came back to do a final presintation, but that wasn't even from our group that was from The Global Education Team , another group that I'am involved in, so we sat dormant until now, before we ended the 2002/2003 school year our group vowed that we would make a difference next year, with our new name North Dundas GLBTS Student Alliance, originally it was NDDHS GLBTS Student Alliance, but due to the school board we weren't allowed to advertise our school at Pride, July 13th 2003, so we had to go down to North Dundas GLBTS Student Alliance. Now we sit in the school trying to start up a useful club, but the high officials do not let us advertise still. This is a shame as it shows that the Charter of Right and Freedoms actually doesn't protect all Canadians. The only thing that we ask is to be given equal opportunities, just like any other group has. Is that too much to ask? or do we have to assume that like always we are never going to has a group as they are trying to drop it and make it go away.
