Please help us, help this wonderful mare and her baby. "Lap of Luxery" and her foal were rescued at auction by the Ward family of Sun Shines Farm in southwest Virginia. Luxery is an 8 year old, well bred, registered Thoroughbred, with a 3 1/2 month old colt, sired by the APHA Paint stallion "Sonny Dee Van".
Luxery and her colt are extremely emanicated. Upon arrival at their new home, Luxery weighed only 836 lbs and the colt only 184 lbs. They are both infested with worms, suffering from rain rot, skin irritations and lacerations.
Luxery is fighting an intestional infection, pneumonia, and has ulcers throughout her mouth. The colt is currently battling a cough, runny nose and laceration to his right knee. Both are lacking energy, due to malnutrition and starvation, and are currently being treated with anitbiotics. The attending veterinarian is Kathryn Trimpi, DVM, of the Roanoke Valley Equine Clinic in Daleville, VA.
The Ward family is having a difficult time with the mounting vet bills, and care that these two deserving horses so desperately need.
