ILL SHO U Y I DRIVE A FORD
I have been racing at the Batesville Speedway for over 6 years. I originally started in the Superstars with a 1974 Ford Torino equipped with a 302, FMX trans, and 3.08 gears.Last year they started a new class, Front-Wheel Drives. I built a 1987 Nissan Maxima and had a chance of winning until the engine compartment caught on fire. The car has not run the same since.
On July 11 my wife totalled the Nissan after hitting the inside wall twice. There was relatively little damage to the sheet metal, but the frame is twisted in about 4 different directions. The motor and trans were not damaged. We will be parting this one out and building either a Taurus with a 3.8 or a V6 Automatic Probe for her.
This year I have built a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO. I have not as of yet completed a feature race. The first time I went out in a heat race, I finished a half lap ahead of the poor guy that came in second. I lost the alternator and had no power at the beginning of the feature race. I did one lap, pulled it on the trailer and went home. The following week I went out and managed to "toast" the brand new clutch. The last few times that I have been on the track, I have managed to either wreck or have mechanical problems. I have had a gas leak, hit the wall, wrecked the rear (broke rear axle), broke a tie rod, hit another car, broke another tie rod, and had a flat tire. All damage has been repaired and she has been repainted. Even with all these setbacks, I have managed to place 9th in points thus far. I am determined to win and will be trying it again this Friday!
