POMPEY MUSEUM
Within this museum there is an archival and museum exhibition gallery
featuring an ongoing exhibit "THE ROAD TO FREEDOM." Artifact,
historical documents and drawings recount the history of slavery, abolition and
emancipation in The Islands Of The Bahamas. Museum hours: 10:00 a.m. - 4:30
p.m., Mon. - Fri.; 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on alternate Sats. Closed Sun. and
holidays. Location: Ground floor of the Pompey Museum, Bay Street,
Nassau.

PAINTINGS BY AMOS FERGUSON

Island: Sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, a permanent Art Exhibition
spotlighting paintings of internationally acclaimed Bahamian artist Amos
Ferguson. Ferguson's "primitive" paintings are grouped under four main
themes: history, religion, nature
and folklore. Museum Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Mon. - Fri.; 10:00 a.m. -
1:00 p.m. on alternate Sats. Closed on Sun. and holidays. Location: 2nd floor of

BAHAMAS HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM
An ongoing exhibition, displaying A RESERVOIR OF HISTORY, comprising a
collection and preservation of historic, anthropological and archaeological
Bahamian artifacts. Hours: Weekdays, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m; Sat. 10:00 a.m.-
Noon. Closed Sun. and holidays. Tours available. Admission: Adults $1.00, $0.50

PIRATES OF NASSAU
Nassau/Paradise
Island: OPENED AUGUST 31, '98. A world-class interactive, historical
exhibit, dating back to the age of piracy and lawlessness in Nassau of 1716.
Special exhibits of infamous pirates such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny and Mary
Read, with audio and other special effects. Composed of a pirate retail store,
conference room, courtyard snack shop and full service bar --
handicap-accessible. Location: Marlborough & George Streets, downtown.
Museum hours: Mon. - Sat. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Duration: A 30- to 45-minute tour.

BALCONY HOUSE
The original design of this wooden house was a transplant of late 18th
century southeast American architecture. The present design and furnishings,
recently restored between 1992 and 1993, have sought to recapture the ambience
of this historic period. Admission: Free, however donations are welcome. Tours
are provided. Hours: 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, except Thursdays. Closed Thur.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD CEREMONY
Nassau/Paradise
Island: A fortnightly tradition of pomp and pageantry marking the changing
of the Guard at Government House, the residence of the Governor General,
personal representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The internationally
renowned Royal Bahamas Police Force Band proudly performs. Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Government House Grounds, Baillou Hill Road, five minutes from

NASSAU BOTANIC GARDENS

Island: An 18-acre Botanic
Garden featuring over 600 species of flora and plant life. Take the kids

ARDASTRA GARDENS & CONSERVATION CENTRE

Island: A spectacular
botanic
garden and zoo that showcases an array of over 300 birds, reptiles and
mammals. Cameras are a must -- photograph the flamingos as they majestically

FISH FRYS
The Islands Of The Bahamas: Here's a taste of a true Bahamian
"backyard" experience. In Nassau, at Arawak Cay, West Bay Street,
daily from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m., enjoy fish cooked local-style, along with other
seafood specialties, such as conch salad and fritters and native delicacies.
Popular days are Fri., Sat. & Sun., with occasional planned activities that
include arts & craft, music and dance. Grand Bahama has its popular Fish Fry
on Wednesdays, from 6 p.m., at Outrigger's Restaurant, Smith's Point. For more

THE RETREAT
