SERIES GUIDELINE

NSW WINDSURFING SERIES

Spirit of competition

The NSW WINDSURFING SERIES is intended to be an enjoyable and fun racing format with competition in both course racing and slalom discipline at the highest level possible.

General guidelines

  • The series will comprise of 9 heats.
  • The overall series winners will be awarded the title of NSW WINDSURFING CHAMPION.
  • One heat will be dedicated exclusively towards formula windsurfing and will be known as the NSW FORMULA WINDSURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Entry

  • Participation is open to all current financial members of windsurfing clubs and associations affiliated to the Australian Windsurfing Association.
  • Entry fees are to be set a minimum to encourage participation. (currently $15.00 per competitor per heat)
  • Entry fees are used in covering the running costs of the series including the maintenance and purchases of equipment involved in the running of the series.

Racing Guideline

  • It is intended to contest course racing until slalom can be run in medium to strong winds where fair and equal racing can be guaranteed.
  • Formula Windsurfing to be conducted in winds not dropping below 8knts at the start of each race.
  • Slalom racing to be conducted in winds not dropping below 12knts until the first competitor has finished the race.
  • This is intended to dramatically reduce the amount of equipment needed to be competitive, and should guarantee heat results.
  • It is hoped that competitors can be competitive with 2 boards and 2 sails.

Scoring

  • All competed races will be scored carrying equal points weighting’s with the following exceptions:
  • Completed slalom tables will be scored as 2 races (ie: final score x 2)

Heat Discards

  • Discards within each heat as per the current sailing rules.

5-7 races carry 1 discard.

+8 races carry 2 discards.

Series Discards

  • Where 5 heats or less gain a result, there shall be no discard heats.
  • Where 6 heats gain a result, there shall be 1 discarded heat result only.
  • Where 7 or more heats gain a result, there shall be 2 discarded heat results.

Average points

  • Average points may be awarded to a competitor who assists in running individual races of a heat.

The competitor must have completed more than 50% of the heat’s races for average points to be awarded for the races missed.

  • Average points may not be applied for when a competitor chooses to assist in regatta organisation due to fatigue, equipment failure or lack of preparation for that heat’s racing.

Heat organisers

The Windsurfing Series Committee will make available the following for each heat:

  • 4 large inflatable buoys with tackle along with a number of cherry markers.
  • set of race flags.
  • regatta stationary including entry forms, finishing sheets, report sheet etc.

Heat organisers are required to provide the following:

  • Waterways aquatic licence and council approval where necessary. (must be obtained 6 weeks prior to the event)
  • A minimum of 1 start/rescue boat with licensed crew. (fully licensed, suitable and in good working order)
  • Personnel including 1 starter and 1 finisher. (the more staff the better).
