1. TITLE:

The NSW State Slalom Championships incorporating Heat 7 of the NSW Slalom Series.

2. VENUE:

Huskisson Beach, Beach St. Jervis Bay, NSW.

3. DATE:

2-3 February, 2002.

4. ORGANISING AUTHORITY:

The organising authority is the NSW Boardsailing Association Inc.

This Championship and Heat 7 will be hosted by the Sanctuary Point Sailboard Club.

5. RULES:

This Championship is governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing for 2001-2004 (RRS) and the Prescriptions and Safety Regulations of the AYF except where any of these are amended by this notice of race or the sailing instructions and the sailing instructions for this Championship.

This Championship is a category C event in accordance with RRS Appendix 1 - ISAF Advertising Code.

6. CLASSES:

This Championship is an open event - no divisions.

7. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER:

Entry is open to current financial members of sailboard clubs or class associations affiliated with the Australian Windsurfing Association Inc.

8. PROGRAM: (Subject to wind conditions)

The race committee will be the sole judge as to the minimum or maximum wind strength required for racing.

It is intended to sail a many Tables as time and weather permits of which one must be completed to constitute an event in both the NSW State Slalom Championship and Heat 7 NSW Slalom Series.

9. RACING FORMAT AND SCORING:

9.1 The Slalom Scoring System (SSS) and racing format will apply (alters RRS Appendix A).

9.2 The best woman, youth, junior and master will be determined by the their respective finishing position in the overall pointscore.

9.3 A competitor's score in the NSW State Slalom Championships will be used to determine their score in Heat 7 of the NSW Slalom Series.

9.4 A competitor's course racing score, should course racing be conducted, will only be used to determine their score in Heat 7 of the NSW Slalom Series.

10. EQUIPMENT:

No limitation on equipment used except that the board must not have a centreboard and that no part of any skeg or fin shall be more than 700mm from the stern when measured along the underside of the board.

11. SAIL NUMBERS:

Competitors shall display sail numbers in accordance with RRS Appendix G as it applies to yachts under 3.5m in length.

12. ENTRY FEE:

An entry fee of $25.00 or $20.00 in the case of youth and junior competitors is payable at the time of registration and includes optional entry in Heat 7 NSW Slalom Series.

13. COURSES:

13.1 Courses to be sailed will be described on the day. For the NSW State Slalom Championships they will be downwind M or figure 8 in configuration in wind strengths in excess of a minimum of 12 knots . The course for Heat 7 NSW Slalom Series may include a windward component and will generally be used in wind strengths of less than 15 knots.

13.2 The race committee will be the sole judge as to the wind strength.

14. PRIZES:

14.1 NSW State Slalom Championships.

Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters overall and to the best finishing woman, youth, junior and master competitors.

14.2 A junior competitor is one who has not turned 16 years of age as at the 2 Feb, 2002.

A youth competitor is one who has not turned 19 years of age as at the 2 Feb, 2002.

A master competitor is one who has turned 35 years of age in the case of a man and 30 years in the case of a woman as at the 2 Feb, 2002.

15. SAFETY:

All those taking part in this Championship do so at their own risk and responsibility. Neither the organising authority nor the host club will be responsible for the sufficiency or adequacy of a competitor’s equipment whose entry has been accepted. It is the sole responsibility of each competitor to decide whether or not to start or to continue to race. Buoyancy vests or harnesses complying with AS1499 or approved by the race committee shall be worn as intended whilst racing. Clothing or equipment which is designed to or can be used to vary a competitor’s body weight shall not be used.
