Hey! This is JP coming from Pilot Point, Texas. I am a senior at 3A Pilot Point High School. My school year was pretty crazy last year. Sports has consumed most of my time. Other than that, hangin with my P-Town friends and studying is about all I do besides sleep. Except now I have a lot of Catholic buddies I talk with as well and chill with as much as I can! For some of my favorite things, click on the my favorites. Youth Leader, Camp Fort Worth 2003, and Camp Fort Worth 2004 Pics! Here are directions to my house.

All About Me

I have lived my whole life in Pilot Point. In my family, I have two brothers; one is attending Texas A&M and the other is a fish in high school. My younger sister is in 7th grade. Both my parents have helped me to be a pretty good kid. I go to a Catholic church and enjoy going to youth nights on Wednesdays. I have always been a good student and am currently ranked #1 in my class of about 100. But sports has always been a passion for me. Ever since coach pitch in 1st grade, softball has been my first love. When I was twelve I joined a tournament softball team called the North Texas Storm, which assembled in Denton. After four years of hard play and about 80 games during the summer, I'm finally taking a break. In high school as a freshman, I ran cross country and track and played volleyball, basketball, and softball. I was on varsity in all five, much to my surprise. The cross country team made it to regionals as well as me in the mile relay. In volleyball we ended up losing in the second round. Basketball was a surprise because we weren't expected to go as far as we did into the playoffs; we were one game shy of making it to regionals. In softball we made the playoffs for the first time ever, but lost our first game. But last year's accomplishments are no match for what Pilot Point girl's athletics accomplished the next year.

I started out the year dropping cross country to concentrate on volleyball. I was soon in the starting line-up as we got off to a great start. But we encountered injuries to two of our crucial seniors and lost our first game of the playoffs to Gunter. So we got an early start on basketball. Most people expected us to go a few rounds deep into the playoffs because we looked to have a pretty strong team. Thanks to Celina move-in Cassy Reed, the Ladycats had another strong presence inside to play with future all-state player Mandy Darwin. Point guard Brandi Dosser and wing Natalie Degraffenried smothered even the best offensive teams with tenacious defense and fish Courtney Darwin played well all around. The Ladycats had incredible depth athetically and the bench was able to stop teams from scoring while the starters took a rest. The Cats got off to a shaky start in district, but started clicking soon after and finished in a tie for first with Aubrey. A playoff game determined who would go into the playoffs seeded #1 and the Lady Cats squeaked by with a 3 point win. We played well enough to win over Hamilton and Krum to make it to the regional tournament. There we came in as the underdogs and knocked off #10 ranked Leonard and #1 ranked Gunter. The Gunter game was the absolute best we could have played and we could hardly believe we were going to state for the first time ever! We did lose our first game to eventual state champion Buffalo by 6, but we clearly deserved to be there hanging with the best of the best.

Thankfully, the basketball season cut track season short. I ended up going to regionals in the mile relay for the second year in a row and we got 4th. Ballers Brandi Dosser and Robyn Gaunder ended up winning the high jump and the discus and going to state. Brandi tied for 3rd and Robyn was edged out for 2nd. Softball also started late as the whole team was assembled just one game before district. We had an up-and-down season and were good enough to make the playoffs, but Valley View edged us out for the third place. I also picked up tennis this year for the first time and only played two weeks before playing in district. Luckily I had an extremely talented parnter, Whitney Duesman, and we won 2nd at district and traveled to Stephenville for regionals. We won our first game, making the farthest ever in school history, but lost our second game to an eventual state qualifiers team from Jim Ned. Now that sports are over, I realize this year has been the absolute best I could have asked for. The seniors have been awesome. I love them!

So now I have started my last half of high school. Volleyball got off to a slow start, but we picked it up during district. We got third and earned a trip to the playoffs. We won our first game over Paris North Lamar, but lost to a very talented Lindale team. I ended up getting Offensive Player of the Year for my disrict, which surprised me. Then basketball also got off to an even worse start and things weren't looking too good. But then we got to district and went 8-2, winning the district championship. Unfortunately, we played a very talented team the first round, Liberty Euyla, and lost. Bummer. But now I'm finally into my spring sports! I just recently won 3rd in B singles at the Goldfield tourney in Denton, which is amazing cuz I hate singles and I'm not good at singles and I had only had three days of practice. I didn't get to play in the district tennis meet because of a softball injury I sustained. In the middle of district, my team played a game against Aubrey. In the first inning, I swung at a pitch and it came off the bat and hit me in the mouth. I ended up with 20 stitches on the outside of my upper lip and on the inside of my upper and bottom lips. So I was out for 2 weeks with that and I now have a cool scar that I wish would go away. But my softball season was still a good one; my team went 9-1 in district and we were district and area champs. I was the Defensive MVP for the district. So maybe I'll walk on the Texas A&M team...maybe I won't. I'm not sure yet. But I am ready to start my last year at PPHS!
