Your stock air box lid looks like this from the bottom with the snorkle removed.
It only allows very minimum air flow and it has to flow all the way through the lid just to get into the box. Then go back the other way through the filter, like this.
I took a dremel tool and cut the center out of my air box lid. I didnt cut it all the way through. Just the side that you can see when you look at it from the bottom. So theres not a really big hole to the outside of my air box. If you are confused, go to the bottom of the page and look at my airbox link. Otherwise the yellow area is where I cut it. The blue circles are 1" air box vents I purchased and added to improve air flow.
With the air box cut like this the air is allowed to flow straight to the filter faster and more efficent. The 1" air box vent also help out alot by allowing more air into the air box, like this.
