Note for May 25, 02: - This was my first scramble of 2002. We started at 11:00a.m. and summited at 2:00p.m. The weather was cast-over the whole day and the temperature was around 10*C. The route was covered in alot of snow. On the ridge there was snow up to our waist.

Dates Summited -May 25,02

Elevation -2575m(8,448Ft.)

Elevation Gain - 870m

Location - Kananaskis Valley

May 25, 02- Right off the highway, the ascent starts. We started climbing on the slab shown here but moved into a snow filled gully because the slab was pretty wet and slippery. Colin is carefully making his way up the slab in the top right of the photo in red.

May 25, 02- After we ventured onto the ridge we made our way towards the peak. The snow was really deep and annoying. Bringing some snowshoes wouldn't have hurt! The North Peak of Opal Ridge is in the background which was our destination for the day.

May 25, 02- This picture of Colin was taken on the desent. This is described in Kane's book as the gully before the summit. It was fun to ascend with all the snow left in it.

May 25, 02- This was really close to the summit. As you can see the mountains in the valley were covered in snow.

May 25, 02- Here is the 3 meter slab as described in Scrambles. Its not bad at all.

May 25, 02- This was taken on the descent right after the summit. It was perfect glissading conditions, although the snow was a bit shallow in places. It is inevitable that if there is a rock poking above the snow, you are going to hit it.

May 25, 02- Finally after a long, boring winter, I made my first ascent of 2002. Still kinda looks like winter though, eh?

May 25, 02- Now its turn for Colin to do the mountaineers summit tribal dance with his ice axe.
