Note for August 12, 04: - We left the trailhead at 10:00pm the previous day by headlamps and bivied around 12:00. We didn't start hiking the next day till about 11:00am which was nice except for the heat. The approach is one of the best parts about this climb and you pass through Sherbrooke Lake, a waterfall and finally the alpine meadows below Mt. Niles. The scrambling is mostly unrelenting scree except for the summit ridge which is exposed. On the return we came about 50ft to a black bear, who was not agressive at all.

Looking down to the glacier and summit cliffs. This rock looks really loose.
