Note Book Keep a file or notebook.

Every successful computer user I know has some sort of file like this

Print out instructions for things you learn to do.

When you get an envelope to print out correctly, pop a copy into your file, with notes of what settings you had the margins, alignment etc. note which way up the envelope fed into the printer.

When you solve a problem, note what you did in your notebook - chances are you'll have to solve it again.

Store login names / passwords / important phone numbers / registration codes in the file for quick access.

Handy Notes Create a notepad file on your desktop.
Copy and paste into it the html you often use
(like the command to insert a graphic for your signature in a post).
Save it to the desktop and it's handy whenever you need it.

Glossary of computer terms

Download directory Take control of where your downloads are stored. Create a Download directory and always download into it when given a choice. Makes it much easier to find files at a later date. See tutorial 3
