R180A/R200A Axle Replacement

Before starting, be sure to have the transmission in gear with hubs locked and the transfercase engaged in 4HI or 4LO.

Set the vehicle on jack stands and chock the wheels so the vehicle does not roll.

Remove the front wheel and set aside.

Remove the locking hub and c-clip.

Remove the brake caliper from the spindle and set aside. The caliper may be hung from the frame using zip-ties or placed securely on the lower control arm.

NOTE: the following pictures show the brake caliper still attached to the spindle, PLEASE DISREGARD. The brake lines were being replaced with braided lines after completion.

Remove the 6 bolts that hold the axle to the differential. The axle should not turn as the transmission is in gear. If it's difficult reaching the bolts, unlock the hub on the opposite side and turn the axle for easier access to the bolts (manual locking hubs only).

Unbolt the upper balljoint from the control arm and carefully withdraw the axle.

Slide in the new axle and bolt it to the differential. Torque to 33 ft-lb.

Carefully manuver the spindle back in place and set the balljoint in the upper control arm. Torque to 15 ft-lb.

Reinstall the caliper and torque to 72 ft-lb.

Reinstall c-clip and locking hub.

Repeat process for opposite side.
