Ways to Get Airborne

A New Pilot is Born
Continued from previous page.

I learned a lot just watching,  then it was my turn.
The pilot, Steve Burns, was so nice to me.  When we were up in the air he kept asking me if I was OK ( of course I said yes ).  The only thing he instructed me to do was to keep my legs straight as possible to keep me in the harness, which kept me in the glider.  The harnesses were blue, black, white and silver.  They looked really neat.  The glider was magenta, white and blue.  I flew on a Falcon hang glider.  The thing I liked best about it was that it took off and landed on wheels.
Before take off , in the harness, I wondered how it would feel to be at 2000 feet.  The take off was very smooth as we glided off the runway and up to 2000 feet.  We were being pulled by an ultralight.  Everytime I looked down, the airport was getting smaller and smaller.  The flight was really exciting and I had a lot of fun during the whole thing.  We went to 2300 feet and stayed up for 30 minutes.  We got to thermal a lot, so I thought that was really cool.  It felt great when the wind was blowing in my face as we flew through the air because it was very hot back on the ground !  When we came in for a landing it felt like we were going extremely fast, then we just rolled to a stop.  Steve is a real great pilot.
Later I told my mom that this was the greatest day of my life.  And now I have a new goal;  to start saving my money to buy my own glider someday.
