Named after a Japanese cartoon, Ako mixed upbeat funk, rap, and some punk to come up with their sound. The singer, Tony Ross, was formerly a member of All U Get, which recorded a couple of demos and EP’s before breaking up in 1995. Tony went on to form a new band, which included bassist Kris, guitarist Sam, and drummer Omar. The band was sometimes known for dressing in 70’s disco attire. They recorded the LP 9+2, in 1995. 2004’s Good Times featured their demos and live recordings at the Sub Contractor.
