Theories | Corpuscular

- The Corpuscular theory was proposed by Sir Isaac Newton in the 1660s.

- He believed that light was a stream of particles ('corpuscles').

- He said that light traveled in straight lines in all directions from it's originating source.

- His simple laws of Physics, based on Descartes's rules about reflection were able to explain shadows and reflections.

Corpuscular Theory

- This method can be simplified much further for us to understand. Consider this:
* You are standing 10m away from a door, with a paintball gun.
* There is a wall 3m behind the door.
* If you fired paintballs from your gun, through the door. All the 'splashes' of paint would end up on the wall behind the door and all the 'splashes' would take the shape of the door that the paintballs went through.

- The paintballs are the corpuscules of light.
