ALL: moving around the back of one of the construction areas, a largekeel having just been laid is skirted, careful steps are taken as I move around it on a wide arc....almost longing as I view the nearby frames, ready to be raised on the next morn, would be my best guess. Startled from my reverie as I hear a voice, I turn at the question of a large, rather dirty-looking fellow... Oh, I beg your pardon and stepping back from the keel's work surface, I clear my throat and continue, Yes, well, to whom would I inquire about having a ship or two built? I can see it in his eyes, on his face, he is trying hard to suppress the laughter, probably thinking, huh, how could a simple woman like me afford such things.

ALL: With a flick of my head, sending back a tendril of unruly hair, I laugh right along with him, I’m perfectly serious, show me the way to the shipwright, and I’ll be out of the keel’s work area, in no time. he points the way and off I go, my steps slowed as I round a corner, coming upon another ship being built, this one already being placed with the keel filler block, as well as the keelson being placed. Clearly, anyone can see this place employs only the finest of craftsmen, and it makes me wonder why I didn’t come here first to attempt the building of my ships. Glancing around briefly to get my bearings straight, the raised voices of two men is heard up ahead, seemingly within a small building, their voices clearly in argument about the fulfillment of a contract, a deadline, and something about…. ~squinting to hear ‘cause I’m a nosy wench sometimes~… something about how the askew frame had better be repaired before the end of the day. The pause in the conversation not daunting me, I continue forward and round the portal to the building, nearly being knocked over by the large fellow stomping his way out of what appears to be an office, Oh! Pardon me!

ALL: paying me no mind, in fact, grumbling that I've gotten in his way, the man continues on his way in the direction of some unnamed building project. Straightening my garment and ducking my head into the building again, attempting it another try only more cautiously this time.....flashing the gentleman within a bright smile, and exchanging a few polite, if not gruff words, he asks me what is my business with the yards. Determining that he is indeed the shipwright in residence, I take a deep breath and state my desires I'd like to commission the building of two ships. Pleased to find what a professional man he is, efficient, unguarded and unjudging, I take a seat at his suggestion and proceed to outline the details of my requirements, Yes, the first and most important ship would be a Lateen rigged heavy tarnship. The man takes out parchment and a writing implement and continues to take notes, asking me the various pertinent questions one after the other, and together we determine, through a painstaking process, that the ship will have a keep of 123 feet sparred, 88 feet on deck, and 75 feet at the waterline.

ALL: Dragging my attention back to him after having been examining the various plaques of accomplishment on his office wall, we continue with the various clarifications, The displacement? Oh yes, if you say so, then 120 long tones sounds just fine. Really quite clueless about such things, but trusting his judgement, he proceeds to pretty much take the control of the situation, rattling off the remainder of the information for me, the sails being single 700 sq feet (fair weather), freeboard of 5 feet, draft of 3 feet, the hold depth 5 feet, the oars to be single bank 20 groups of 3 per side, and that the ship will hold a crew of 75-60 oarsmen, 15 deck hands…. Again my gaze skitters back to him at the next question ”What? Armament? Oh yes, most definitely, and what do you suggest?” Staring at me briefly, and then ascertaining through a few more questions, that this ship is indeed for a captain, and not just any captain, but the Captain of the High Jarl’s Personal Security Guards, he determines in a loud voice, Well the definitely, shearing blades, two light catapults, two onagers, eight springals, and two turrets.

ALL: Waiting patiently while the shipwright works the figures, tallies the numbers, and generally does what he does best, that's made the Scagnar shipyard so successful, I glance around the place, turning back as he finally rattles off the price in a gruff voice. Pleased to hear that it’s around the same as that of the previous builder I’d hired, who disappeared, the contract is drawn up and signed. He turns to me, questioningly, And the other ship?

ALL: Realizing suddenly, I'd forgotten a very specific important detail on the contract, I ask for it back....with a confused look, the shipwright produces the paper, and with the reed pen, the name of the heavy tarnship is filled in as "Sangrida"satisfied, now, I offer the pen down so the man can assist me with the specifications of the second ship. "Okay, this one is a bit different. I wish for a roundship, for simple merchant type traveling, or, well you know, if I just want to take my friends for a bit of a sail, aye? laughing lightly, though the man's not impressed, he's got a pile of work to do, a yard full of ships to supervise....grunting impatiently at me, I hastily continue, All right, anyway, I desire a Brigantine Rigged Roundship that'll hold about 10 passengers.

ALL: His reed pen works furiously on the new sheet of parchment as, together, we figure out what would be best for this ship, dubbed Mystical Dreamer and explains to me how it's considered a Tyross Class Medium Roundship, the hull material will be timer, the keep will be 112 feet sparred, 68 feet deck, and 46 feet at the waterline. He further indicates how the beam will be 22 feet on deck and 20 feet at the waterline. Other specifications are a freeboard of 7 feet, draft of 9.5 feet, a hold of 9 feet, and the crew will consist of 65 crew-members, in addition to the 10 passenger capacity. Answering him adamantly Oh yes, definitely armament, nothing too serious and he decrees it will have two ballistae and four spingals

ALL: Listening as the price is rattled off, the shipwright juggling all the numbers and shifting papers around, the contract is drawn up and signed because, after all, it's quite a fair amount in my small bit of experience. Exchanging our goodbyes, having gotten the assurance from the man that the ships will be done in an expedient amount of time, I rise and turn toward the door 1
