Hmong society is based primarily on the clan and its extended families. All members of the same clan have communal ties, particular duties, marriage ceremonies and special taboos during the funeral rituals.
Hmong have clan leaders.
The Hmong children are taught to respect and obey their parents and elders.
All children are under their parents' control no matter the age.
If the clan name is the same, intermarriage is forbidden.
Ritual parties are done for newborn babies after three days of birth and also to help heal the sick and ill.
When death occurrs an autopsy is not allowed.
The girls are never to visit the guys and go out on date(s) no matter the age.
Rice is always the main part of the meal.
Hmong elders are not to stay in nursing/retirement homes but to be taken care of by his/her son and daughter-in-law.
Hmong are anti-PDA (Public Display of Affection).
In Hmong marriages the man is in charge; all decisions are based on him.
