By Jake Dickson....Saturday August 9th...... Early morning, 1:40 AM on Saturday August 9th, Luke Kennison and Jon Shramp were critically injured when their car struck a tree on Moose River Road. Jon was driving at the time of the accident. After being removed from the wreck with the Jaws of Life, both were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. Hours later, Luke was transferred by helicopter to Syracuse University Hospital. At this point in time medical personnel were having a great deal of trouble getting his vitals to become stable. Soon after his movement, Jon was also transferred by ambulance to Syracuse University. At this time Jon was unresponsive to all stimuli.(coma) At 6:30 PM both patients were stable, however sometime during the afternoon Jon was put on a respirator. Doctors concentrated on sewing both of them back together all throughout the day. And also setting pins in their legs for their broken femurs. Although sedated, both were in extreme pain. Luke’s injuries are as follows: Broken femur, Fractured pelvis, Extreme lacerations and bruises, Facial damage. Luke was stitched back together and was ok to undergo surgery to fix his leg. It is safe to say that Luke will make it through this, however it will be in no way what so ever a painless and easy recovery. At this time I do not have complete knowledge of Jon’s injuries however this is what Luke’s parents told me: Broken femur, Fractured pelvis, Extreme lacerations and bruises, Head/Brain damage. Jon was also stitched back together however was not ok to undergo surgery because of the uncertainty of the extent of his head injuries. Although optimistic, doctors say it is too early to say anything about him making it through this….again, because of the head injuries. The purpose of this is to provide the reader with correct and accurate information. It was to my understanding that many rumors were spread about this incident; however I can assure you of my reports authenticity because it is a primary source. It was earlier this afternoon when I went to the hospital and saw Luke, talked to his family, and heard the current report on Jon at the time. I would also like to state that the possibility of alcohol being a cause of this incident was in fact ruled out by New York State Troopers and various medical personnel. At this time the only possibilities for a cause are: Excessive speeds / lost control, and or an Animal in the road. I will update this as the events of the next few days unfold, so check back every so often for new info. This is the truth. No rumors. Pray for them. .............Sunday August 10th...........9:00 PM. I just returned from a vistit to the hospital to find that both are doing better. Luke is awake and alert to whats going on, although he is still in pain. It was obvious that his face and left arm caused him the most pain because they looked like they had been blasted with shredded pieces of metal....hence why they are full of stitches. The surgury went well and a metal rod was placed in his left femur to help it heal. He is doing much better and plans on returning home soon. I along with others were not able to see Jon because of his condition. They found swelling in his brain, and inorder to have a chance to heal, doctors had to sedate him into a "coma". Theoretically this inactivity should allow the swelling an opportunity to subside. It is still too early to say anything, however doctors still have an optimistic attitude about them. Also, after talking to Luke, I have established a cause for the accident... Apparently Luke let Jon drive , and on the way back from Nice And Easy in Boonville, they jumped a bridge on Moose River Road at speeds estimated at around 80 MPH. Apon landing, they lost control and hit a tree. Keep praying...............................Tuesday August 12th.........6:00 PM. I just returned again from another hospital visit. Luke has moved out of ICU and got his neck brace taken off. Also he started his physical therapy today. It was a rough start, but promising none the less. Again, I wasn't able to see Jon only because he was in surgury at that time. However you can visit him now. I spoke with his dad and last night Jon had a major operation done; a piece of his skull was removed inorder to help the swelling go down. Things were looking good until they found a leak in his lungs. They also found somthing wrong with his skin on his side and chest. Its a condition were little holes form and air leaks in and out. But overall things are looking better and his progress, although small, is also promising.
