The Iron Throne, if nothing else, is one of the most cut-throat organization in all the world. You don't get very far in an organization like that being stupid, and make no mistake about it, Jeremiah Kofni is far from stupid. Unfortunately several failures that were due to circumstances out of his control (rivals set him up to take the fall) caused him to fall out of favor with the guild and forced him to take control of the branch in Zan Thulte, however, his latest scheme to get ahold of the Ring of Vas and present it to the guild to regain his former prestige seems to be a solid one, at least to him and his advisors.

Kofni has hired the best mercenaries in the land to ascertain the ring, and has given more specific instructions to Benson and Mauldin, who maintain regular correspondence with Kofni and keep him up-to-date as far as what is going on with their search for the ring. Recently the trail has grown cold, it is believed that Cromwell the Magnificent has the ring now, but he's making no moves to use it. Perhaps his supposed immortality as a liche has prompted a waiting game of sorts? Maybe he'll just wait until all his enemies are dead or have forgotten all about the ring...
