Q: What books do you go by and considered usable in your games?
A: I accept books from nearly any source, alot of the stuff that I've pieced together in my campaign world is from a variety of different sources, so as long as its not too outrageous I'm pretty liberal as far as what you can and can not use books-wise.
Q: Why is it that magic items tend to be heavily restricted in certain areas of the campaign world?
A: Well, part of it is to do with the flavor of the campaign world, but I originally decided upon that because my first campaign I ran got out of hand because I let my players basically buy and/or have built whatever magic items they wanted with the money they had available. It was ok at first, but eventually it broke the campaign and nearly drove me completely loony, so for my sanity and the campaign's longevity I try to heavily reign in magic items. Also it tends to make that one or maybe two magic items you get that more precious.
Q: Can I use a grappling hook as a weapon?
A: Technically by the rules I can use a wet cat as a weapon, I'm just not proficient with it so I get a -4 to hit. The following goes for this item, as well as a lot of other items that aren't meant to be as weapons in general: don't expect much out of them if you use them in unusual ways, they weren't built for that use and I will occassionally be impatient enough to try to think of ways to block their implementation as a weapon. It's not to say I don't like creativity, it's just that somethings are just silly to consider them actually happen. (Heh, outside of, yeah know, undead and magic and stuff like that)
Q: On a similiar note is a rug a martial or exotic weapon?
A: Martial if you've rolled it up and are beating someone with it, exotic if you're using it in a similiar manner to that of a net, however note it's hardness and hitpoints are slightly less then that of an actual net.
Q: What is the cosmology of Petopia? (e.g. what planes exist there)
A: I observe all Planes put forth in the Manual of the Plane, inlcuding the optional ones such as the Plane of Mirrors and the Plane of Dreams. Also I'm developing several of my own, if I place it in the campaign world then I'll put it in the Living Petopia section under Geography or something similiar.
Q: Aren't some of your Prestige Classes and Feats overpowered? Shouldn't all PrCs and Feats be fairly equal in standing?
A: Frankly, all my Prestige Classes are not equal and yes some are overpowered compared to those in most D&D sourcebooks. The thing is that most of my PrCs and some of the more powerful feats have the prerequisite of being a member of an organization that will teach you or allow you to gain access to the class or feat, and I consider this the ultimate balancing factor when dealing with such things. Most the time if you loose membership in an organization that is required for the feat or class you may end up losing class abilities or benefits gained from the feat or PrC, or you may not be able to continue advancing in a particular Prestige class because now no one is going to teach you. If something gets out of hand karma will balance out in the end, trust me on that. Q: That said, can I play a Mystic Theurge?
A: No, at least not yes. If someone want to try to make it a character concept I may accept the idea of a person traveling searching for the secret lore to become such a powerful being as a Theurge, but as of this being written you cannot just take the pre-requisites and enter the class without my permission.
Q: Can I use the Gem Magic rules out of Magic of Faerun?
A: No, hideously overpowered. Technically by the way they wrote the rules you could set off hundreds of spells at once by just keying all the gems to the same command word or trigger. I made that mistake once, and I'm not subjecting any campaign world I run to that non-sense again.
Q: Can I take the Improved Sneak Attack feat from Traps and Treachery?
A: Maybe, but not the way it's written. The pre-requisites are ridiculously easy to meet, if I were to allow your sneak attack die to jump to a d8 I'd probably make it a rogue special ability or something similiar so that you'd have to be at least 10th level to get it.
Q: Can I use Summon Monster spells to summon monsters into the air?
A: No.
Q: How about Orca's in trees? Will that fly?
A: About as well as an Orca does.
Q: Can my brother be my familiar?
A: No.
Q: But I got this great concept! See, he's a retard and...
A: No.
Q: Can I take the Spellfire feat? Pleeease?
A: Sexual favors aside, no.
Q: Can Amber play?
A: No. Now that I think about it, this question isn't asked all that frequently...
